Hey everyone. These questions go out to the owners of the new 17" unibody Macbook Pro. Before I may my final purchase...I was hoping you could help clarify a few things as I have yet to see any reviews for this particular laptop in full depth... especially here on notebookreview.

    1) Does the laptop get pretty warm? The palm rest? The bottom of the laptop when putting it on my lap?

    2) The edge-to-edge display, do you notice any dusts getting in it? Is there an issue with dust going inside at all? I have an HP dv5t with that infinity display and I have to say, I have 2-3 dust specs inside the dang thing.

    3) When you close the laptop, do the keyboards leave marks on the screen? What if I use that keyboard protector that Apple has on their website?

    4) Any issues with grease building up on the black keyboard?

Thank you guys...I tried the search feature here, but for some reason it's difficult to find any reviews, topics, etc. on this model.

No more than many other laptops. I run SSD's, I ought to add.

Not YET. (smaller MBP's - my 17s are matte) We'll see.

    See above.

No more 'shininess' than most other keyboards.

    1. Under load (IE, gaming), the top bezel above the keyboard and the top left keys themself do heat up nicely. The bottom doesn't get super hot, but it can spit out some decent hot air.

    2. The 5-6 MBP Uni's I've had cross my path I've never seen dust in the display yet. I do remember my M6400 which had the E2E display getting a nice couple pieces of dust in there and it drives you nuts.

    3. Not that I've seen. The unit is pretty sturdy and you would have to apply some decent pressure to the center and that's assuming you're scooping it up roughly instead of by the sides for moving/transport.

    4. No more than other keyboards, but it does stand out.

Above the keys to the left can get quite warm. Palm rests have always been comfortable for me. Don't use it on my lap all that often, but when I have its never been uncomfortable.

    No dust here.

No keyboard marks. Something I was worried about as well.

As another said, no worse than other keyboards, but there is a definite shine to the keys if you look at them at an angle. Straight on, I can't notice anything.

    1. To be frank, yes. The Macbook Pro unibody will get warm during intense application usage via Gaming. However keep in mind the 802.11n Airport Extreme wireless cards in the computer do have a tendency to run very warm, for this reason it can all add to the effect. This is known at apple but is not a concern.
    2. We have Macbook Pro's, Air's, and Macbook running almost 24/7 here at the lab at Apple Care and dust does build up around the display. However I haven't noticed any actually inside the inner casing of the display. On some of the older Powerbooks however there is some dust in the displays.
    3. Not that I have seen. I suppose its possible but the computers I see look normal.
    4. Hmm I'm not too sure. As long as you clean the computer you should be okay.

Nice, thanks everyone. I'll be taking the plunge this Friday! Think I'll be getting the 2.8 Ghz as I don't see the benefits of of pay $300 to bump up to 3.06 Ghz...

    4) It's not so much grease on the keyboard, it's wear by your calloused (or even manicured) fingers. The shine they take on after a while is quite noticeable, but is pretty much the same shinyfication over time as any other notebook.

Simply out, any imperfection stands out on the Crapbooks. Especially the warped 17-inchers.

1- the left side palm rest gets a little warm when you change the video card then if you change back every thing's cold

I'm glad that there are no keyboard marks on the screen. That was my primary issue with my white macbook. Everyday after school, I would take my macbook out of my backpack and there would be various marks on the screen from the keyboard. It was annoying cleaning it off all the time.
