    Hi,
I got my Macbook roughly one month ago and I'm really enjoying the improved performance over my Ibook. I got parallels pre installed from Macmall and it came with Parallels working fine with XP. But yesterday I was booting up XP when I got this message

"Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem:

Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Users/user/Documents/Parallels/Microsoft Windows XP/winxp.hdd. The file is used by other application."

What is wrong and how can I fix it?

    Thanks

when i had a problem like this before, I think it was basically the fact that another program was using that file.

So try quitting all of the programs open, and see if it helps.

Thats the thing, No other program is in use besides Finder itself. I used activity monitor to make sure. I've also restarted my comp and zapped the PRAM just incase. Any help?

Did Mac Mall give you a disc so that you can reinstall Parallels? Hmmm Mac Mall... suspicious.

    Try this:
Copy the WinXP hdd to a same location.
Copy it to the original location, deleting the one that's there.
    Try it now.
