I'm thinking about getting a 2.5" SATA drive in an enclosure so that I can make backups of my hard drive. What is the best way to go about doing this? I want to basically clone my hard drive during the backup so that if this one ever has problems, I can simply change it and go. Of course, if there isn't an easy(and free) way to do it, I'll just stick with backing up individual files.

Erm, I haven't tried that yet. I'm still tryign to find a cheap 2.5" enclosure that supports a 7200 rpm drive. Most of them are usb powered and can't draw enough power to power anything above a 5400 rpm drive.

But as far as software, I believe iBackup or SuperDuper! might meet your needs. not sure if they can do a straight clone or not though.

I use an external with firewire and have SuperDuper! to back it up. SuperDuper! does clone the drive and will make it bootable.

Great! Thanks. I'll look into SuperDuper! then.
