    Hello guys,

I felt in love with the new macbook Aluminum 2.4Ghz. But I just found out that there was not any firewire port in it. It's such a disaster to me :(.
How can I transfer videos from my MiniDV to Macbook now  ?

Any cable or hub can do that?
According to this site http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-firewire-to-usb-adapter.htm they said that there might be a hub to solve my problem! Is it real ?

So, Are these following hubs and cable looks like what they mentioned ?

The first link is just a firewire hub, requires an already existent firewire port.
Second one is what you want.

It took me way too long to type that, so many typos and backspaces. That means IT'S TIME FOR BED.

For what ? My Camcorder is ZR950
They said that I need an 4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 cable. And Macbook doesn't has any Firewire port :D

    No, not yet.
Lacks of firewire and the solution to this is my considering now.
If the Hub in the upper post is okie I would definitely buy Macbook 2.4Ghz ^^!

Oh, then things aren't all that serious then. You said it was "disastrous", I was under the impression you bought it, had it for a while then bought a camera and realized that you can't use it with your Macbook. Well, I know it's little more but since you're not really stuck just buy the Macbook Pro for $1999.00. There's no way you're going to get a workaround or get a cable that will convert from USB to Firewire and if you do it won't work well with your cam, you will lose quality and functionality.

If you MUST stay in the same price point as the Macbook then you can still get the white one for $999.00, it still has Firewire 400.

    Hihi! SR for your misunderstanding.
Thanks you guys a lot. ^^! I know what I need now.
$1999.00 bucks is a lot to me. I can't afford that. Maybe I will stick with my FW for a while :p

I don't think any Apple Stores sell refurbished products. Just stick with the Apple Store or eBay on this one (I recommend the former, and a warranty with the latter).

A refurbished MacBook Pro actually starts around $1700+, if you must know.

Most/all new camcorders have USB. And I think it's closer to the All range. That's why the ditched the firewire,

    Buy this.

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB074LL/A?mco=MjE0NjE5MA

They have these deals on the last generation MBP fairly often but you need to check early in the morning because they seem to update around 3AM or so and they usually sell out before 1PM.

This is the cheapest one I have seen so far but I have seen a lot of models on there.

    Here is the refurbished page.

    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_pro

If you aren't in a rush I would just wait for a good deal on an older MBP. They all have the regular one year warranty so not too much to worry about.

Well, you can always transfer your videos with a USB connection. Is there a reason why you prefer firewire?

Many older video cameras do not have the ability to stream video via USB.

The new White MacBook is also an option. It has the same processor, chipset and IGP as the Unibody MacBook, while still having Firewire and being cheaper. Of course, the design might not be what you want.

    I have a question:
Does Apple refurbished Macbook Pro come with a new battery ?

    For examples:

there was a student who have bought a MBP for almost a year, then he has something wrong with his laptop. Therefore, he gave it to Apple and received the new one.
Apple just repaired the problem-part in the old MBP and sold it like the refurbished ?
So, this refurbished MBP has 1 years old Battery ? or they replace it with a new battery ?
