I just bought the MBA 11" 1.4 ghz, 2gb ram and it keeps freezing while streaming live feed from ESPN 3 with 2 browsers open.

I'm assuming the MBA can't handle this type work load all at once? Should I try to return it and upgrade to the 1.6ghz and 4 gb ram? Would that even make a difference? I was not expecting this at all or I wouldve went with the upgrade at the store.

It's more than likely overheating. Friend of mine has one of these and she's had it in 6 times for overheating, they did everything to it, until, in her Air's case at least, they realized too much thermal paste was being applied. Once they fixed that it seemed to run a lot better, but it still occasionally freezes and stutters at times.

i have the 1.6 \ 4gb and can't replicate the issues your having, so maybe spec change will do it.

can you do live stream while having 2 browsers open with ichat on at the same time? I'll probably upgrade to the 1.6ghz and 4gb tomorrow.

Where is this laptop placed when it freezes? If its on a bed, couch, carpet, etc, then that could be the reason for overheating.

How loud does the fan get when you're doing this?

no matter what it can or cannot handle... it should not lock up.

if its locking up, ther is either some flaw in some software your running on there (the main ones your using, or something running in the background), or there is something physically wrong with the machine.

the fan is pretty quiet and im using it on my desk. it does get hotter when im live streaming but its nothing abnormal. This is probably an issue with ESPN 3 live streaming because I havnt had any problems streaming from netflix. Is there a program to convert flash to html-5 with live streaming? would that help with live streaming. I watch a lot of live NBA and NFL games on my computer.

I would assume the problem you are having is related to Flash and not the computer itself, as I get locking up when I run Flash at the same time as anything else on my desktop PC...

It seems whatever they've done to the recent versions of Flash have completely destroyed it.

And, no, there's no converter from Flash to HTML5 for streaming as far as I know, but Youtube did release a Safari plug-in called Youtube5 for Youtube videos only.

I can't vouch for the OS X version, but the version for 64-bit Windows hasn't caused me any issues in years.

Yeah if the fan isn't going nuts, then it obviously isn't overheating. Is the ESPN live streaming a premium service? If not I'd love to test it out on mine and see if I can replicate the issue.

no, its completely free. any televised game on espn can be watch over the web through espn 3 from espn.com

im sure there was a ton of traffic because it was Heats vs Magics and Lakers vs Suns. I dont know if there couldve been an issue with espn's servers trying to keep up.

i left it steaming on my MBP 13" for a long time... off espn 3, with no problems... so it might be something directly about your installed flash version.

go here and make sure you have all flash uninstalled...
Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS,

then get the latest installer from adobe.com and install it fresh.

Its not the speed man, a 1Ghz pentium III could handle that with ease.

occasionally Flash just screws up for me... usually on hulu which I use a lot. It will get where it freezes and goes and is so bad its basically unusable and I have to try to get the web browser killed. I've tried multiple browsers and it doesn't matter. To fix it I always have to reinstall flash, and then its fine again. It might be fine for a month or two, or maybe only a few weeks, but eventually messes up again... so don't expect flash to be great, if it ever seems to be messing up, a reinstall usually always fixes it.

Wouldn't surprise me, giving all the weird stuff they must of done to fit all the stuff in such a small case. Sadly its been common in tech for early adopters to essentially become free beta testers.

I just got the MBA 11" (see my sig) and so far have NOT experiencing any problems with freezing (knock on wood!). I only have this MBA for a few days but I have been hammering it like crazy: run multiple apps (including VMWare fusion), using it from sleep mode (closing / opening the lid) about 15 times a day, screen sharing, etc.

Maybe because I have higher specs?

I actually cant wait for Apple and Adobe to make it work right on OSX properly. I have no issues with it in Windows, Solaris, Linux (including BSD in which OSX is based upon)
