i find that interesting. find a best buy that honors the student discount, and you're made in the shade. (some do.)

Hmm, when Apple requests that you buy a MacBook and an iPod Touch on the same receipt and send it for the mail in rebate, do they need to be purchased from an Apple Store, or can it be at any Apple reseller (such as Best Buy)? If you can get this plus the Touch with the $299 rebate, it'd be really sweet.

Though, through my university, the new MBs (penryn) are only $75 more, so maybe its not really worth it.

doesnt say anything about "authorized apple retailer" or whatever best buy says they are.

here's a question, do different schools get more off their computers than others? i can get the MBP for 1799, or if i buy in my university bookstore, i can get it for $1749 but then i lose out on the printer deal. those are my two options, any1 else have a better deal?

BestBuy is sold out already. For the heck of it, I checked my area, and all stores in my area are out of stock as well.

I would still hesitate to buy from them. I could take 3 pages telling the story of my grandfather and his messed up TV from best buy. I don't think anyone in the family has got anything from them since. I don't recommend the store.

Refurbs are great. Plus if there is anything wrong with them, you have no trouble getting apple to fix/replace it.

Most likely Apple requires you to buy the combo from them to get the rebate. They have to pay the resellers for selling their products so it wouldn't make sense for them to offer a rebate if you bought the combo from a reseller.
I would highly recommend to call Apple to verify before possibly making a buying mistake.

I can tell you, not gonna happen. Educational discounts, unless specifically worked out with a Manager at Best Buy (not likely), aren't going to happen.

Not for some time, at least...
