I was just wondering if the Macbooks supported 3gb of ram. I know that apple only offers 2 but I heard that they do support 3. I was just wondering if anyone could either confirm or deny this.

Yeah
The Macbook's can take 3GB.. -
Only the Core 2 models.
-
Oh, yeah.. and when you put 3GB in, you lose dual channel capability..
-
Awesome, I assume if you choose the 2gb upgrade while you're configuring it they give you 2 1 gb sticks? Is so, would it be better just to go with 1gb and then buy another 2gb stick from newegg or somewhere and install it myself?
-
Yeah I guess... because then you would have an extra 1Gb stick that wouldn't be used, you could sell it or something...
Are you looking at buying the macbook? the 13" one?
2GB is a lot of RAM... if you use that much in OSX then go for the 3GB I guess.. -
Okay it turns out apple gives you 2x512 sticks. I guess for dual channel. So I'd go with the Corsair 2gb+1gb stick for $175 and then sell the 2x512 sticks I guess. Yeah I'm looking at the new core2duo 13" macbooks. I'm not really thinking about OS X, I'm getting 3 gigs more for the arrival of leopard. It's gonna need more ram than OS X and I wanna be prepared. Plus, you can really never have to much ram and Apple charges $158 to go from 1 to 2 gigs, so why not just pay and $17 for another gig. I'd make the $17 dollars up from selling the 2 512 sticks.

hah, cool!
Have fun with the macbook -
Good deal, I'm gonna do that for sure. Thanks for the fast responses guys, this Mac forum is sweet... Way better than the Alienware one...

If you're getting 3GB of RAM, you might as well upgrade to the MBP
Macbook 3gb ram?
