My GF has the Macbook 1.1 and she has the discolored palm rest issue, she has apple care and she says that it doesn't expire, but could someone tell me their experience? Also if it doesn't expire what kind of solutions do they offer for it? thank you. (she is the original owner if that helps)

    Hello,

Her Applecare won't expire, only if she renews it every three years at a fee. Applecare lasts for three years by my knowledge, after which it expires.

Apple will replace the top case if you take it into an Apple store or send it in for repair.

if the palm rest has discoloured, apple usually replaced the entire top case that includes the keyboard and touch pad. if the apple care has expired; apple sometimes agreed to replace it free of charge, but your luck might varies. and i never have such experience having anything done outside of warranty, but apple support has generally been very good.

it is a no brainer to contact apple as soon as posible when you have problem and its under warranty.

you cannot keep renewing applecare (as lixuelai said), you can have up to 1 year to decide wheter you want/need the apple care or not, the apple care extents the warranty up to 3 years, you cannot top it up.

I got excited for a while before realising apple care cannot be renewed every 3 years.

The discoloring of the palm rest and trackpad is supposedly a wide-spread issue, and Apple should replace it. ;) We'll have to see what Sam and Budding have to say about it, since they both have a white Macbook. :D

I think the discoloration was rampant in the models before the late 2007 Santa Rosa Models came out. Remember reading that if you have one of those white models its a manufactures defect and they will replace it no matter what.

That's right, AppleCare lasts for one year, and can be extended two more to make up 3 years. But it can't go any further than that. However, often Apple customer service will help you out anyway; its worth a try, and the most they can do is say they can't help you out!
