Hey, I am planning on purchasing a Macbook on my Birthday July 15, and I am probably going to go with the 1.83 ghz with a 60 or 80 gig hd @ 5400 rpm and the 512mb of ram, I am going to upgrade the ram to 2 gig's myself. I also want to get that free Ipod Nano deal, for my sister. I am wondering has anyone done it and got there rebate yet, and if it is legit. Also I am wondering if this notebook would be ideal for normal notebook usage, and I am a new mac user and I will probably put XP on there. Will this be able to run old games like WArcraft 3 The frozen throne? Ty, and Do you know if it is easy to learn the Mac OS, I used it a little at school but I don't know a lot about it. And do you think it is easy to upgrade the HD myself, and will it be worth it. And the ram that comes with the Macbook, can I put it in a desktop or do I just have to sell it. Ty in advane.

    ArmanSLR...

The deal is legit, the promotion is being done by the company itself who makes the product.

Yes, its perfectly fine for normal notebook usage and some more, most people were surprised how much Apple allowed the Macbooks to have in comparison to the Macbook pro.

Yes, it can run older games pretty well, you can check out YouTube and find games such as Half Life 2 which is an incredibly hardware intense game actually playing on Macbooks that are running XP.

Yes, the harddrive and memory is easy to upgrade, and please remember to protect yourself from ESD and taking the power off before you do it. ;)

No, you can't put the ram that comes with the macbook into a desktop, the ram is specifically made for notebooks (smaller size). The harddrive from it is another story, but you'll most likely need to get some extra things to make sure it connects, and has a space in the desktop to reside.

There is a great website I found that gives hints on how to use the OS X beyond what most manuals teach. www.macosxhints.com give it a check out sometimes.

Anymore questions just pm me or ask it in here.

    G'luck.

The intel graphics cards aren't great but they run ok. I can run Civ4 (a little slow at times but definitely playable) on the last generation of intel graphics cards (915 GM). You should be able to play warcraft 3 just fine (as long as it plays ok with XP) and may even be able to play WoW at lower settings.

Sounds like a good plan. You may not need 2 gigs of ram, but 1 gig is probably a necessity. You can get 2 gigs (2x1) of ram for ~$200 or a 512 mb chip for ~$50.

Personally, I find OSX a little confusing and opaque, but many switchers fall in love with the new OS.

Yeah. If you're planning on getting memory or hard drive upgrades via third party, definitely give newegg.com a look because you can basically get 2 1GB ram sticks for about 140-170 dollars and a HDD much cheaper than retail.

ty for response ric4rboy91, I talked to a customer service rep and he was very knowledgeable, I didn't expect him to know much about the macbook, but he knew a lot! And he was very helpful, a 9/10 in customer service. But about the promotion, I asked him and he said that my mom working in the district would be able to work, and I asked him how they would be able to know she is employed and stuff, and they said well you just register then accept the agreement and its basically the 'honor' system. I will register with her, but that made me be more confident about this promotion :D. Ty for help. But the customer service rep was very helpful and I think that from my expierence with him Apple seems to have good customer service, so that is another good sign and a relief.
    Thank You for information.

    Yep, basically an honor system.

I am however an actual college student, and I use the education discount. Nothing irks me more than people who aren't in school that cheat the system like that, especially when its a great company that delivers great products.

Today, I receieved my Macbook and I feel in love. :) Soon my InvisibleShield shall arrive.

Getting back on topic, its respectable you asked about how you could get a discount, so hope you enjoy whatever you decide on getting. :D

Ty, well yes I will be using my mom's account so I can really get the discount honestly :D , But I have found the InvisibleShield online and it was like 40 bucks for a standard one and 60 for the premium one for a macbook, can you tell me how much you got yours for and if you like it, and some information on it. Ty so much ~Arman
PS * Hope you love your Macbook!

I bought the standard one for 40 bucks, you aren't really gonna find it cheaper I think since InvisibleShield is made from that exact company that sells it.

None much to say about it but that its made to protect from scratches and getting it dirty, and any damages done to the InvisibleShield itself is replaceable for free as long as you send in the old one.
