Ok i figured i would give this a shot here. hopefully it'll do us some good. and YES, i have searched up and down.

My buddy and i both just bought Macbooks. Poor guy used it all over the place all day, and got awesome wifi. at the end of the day he goes home, and absolutely cannot connect to his 2wire router.

A couple of days later i went by there and we sat down and went through all kinds of stuff. changing the wep password to something else, changing over to WPA. nothing worked.

We called 2wire. The guys tells us lots of people have problems with macs and the 2wire. he says its the drivers for the macbook. not the router. he said you either have to switch to WPA or no encrytion.
    well, we tried WPA. nothing.
Finally disabling encryption brought no joy either! how is that even possible!

i'm clueless at this point. my buddy found some sort of "update" from apple, that looked like it may have fixed the issue, but it wouldnt let him install it. it said it doesnt pertain to this computer.

He's running the latest 10.4.10, all updates and that stuff. this is the first time i have ever see a computer not want to connect to a router WITHOUT encryption.

    Anyone?

I'll be interested to hear the answer. I've been thinking about buying one; our DSL modem is six years old and keeps losing the connection. Your story is not encouraging.

Good day guys. I'm that buddy he would be talking about. I'm here to tell everyone that somehow I got my Wifi to work on OSX with my Macbook. How you ask? No clue! Here's what happened.

I just bought a PS3. So I got my PS3 online and I wanted to set it to NAT2 as opposed to the NAT3 I was getting so I could get maximum speed and compatibility for the future. So I tinkered and tinkered until I finally figured out how to set it to NAT2. In the process I figured out that setting my router to Channel 4 was the sweet spot for my router. My PS3 was reporting getting signals of no less than 92% consistently. Sometimes at 100%. After I was done with my PS3 I was still in the mood to tinker so I pulled out my Macbook and started loading programs onto Windows XP. Now keep in mind WiFi ALWAYS worked on WindowsXP with my Macbook. Just never in OSX.

So at about 8:00 AM I booted up in OSX. I was itching to get my wireless to work (amazing huh? I was still in the tinkering mood) I decided to to find my SSID and log in. Now the funny thing was, my SSID was hidden. So I chose the SSID that was blank and the MAC knew it was mine from previous attempts to log in and displayed the correct SSID name later. And suddenly it connected! Flawlessly too. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting and BAM. Connected again.

So in the end I only changed one thing. I set my Channel to broadcast at Frequency 4. That and my SSID was being hidden by my router. Otherwise no other changes from the last time I was unsuccessful. On OSX I chose WEP-ASCII since that is why my password is. 13 Digit ASCII.

I had no problems whatsoever beyond have poor wifi reception compared to my dell but the day I brought my mBp back it has worked and connects easily and with no issues. Powered up my mBp and turn on the wifi and it searched, looked for mine and entered the key, save it and I was on my way.

Now, I presume both MBs met with the same problem, did you try to plug in your notebooks directly via ethernet? Were you able to get online? Are you able to test the wireless function of the 2wire? Are there multiple 2wire wifis being broadcast? Make sure it's yours that you are signing up to. You might need to change the channel being broadcasted by the 2wire as well. And of course make sure you entered the key correctly ;)
