Hi, I just wanted to know if this is normal. In XP, my early 2009 macbook (check my sig) only downclocks the processor to 1.59GHz (from 2.0GHz) in power saver mode. My 2008 macbook (intel) would downclock to 800MHz (from 2.1GHz). That just doesn't seem right, is that normal? Just doesn't seem like much of a power saver to me.

Well, you'll have to understand that Apple is not going to fully support Windows the way YOU want them to. So many people tend to ignore that being able to run Windows is just an extra function that a Mac can do.

My p8600 downclocks from 2.4GHz (1.250V) to 1.6GHz (1.113V) as well, however, in Power Save Mode in Vista, the dynamic FSB is also cut in half and the processor goes to 0.8GHz (1.038V). At least according to Everest for the clocks and CPU-z for the voltages...

Where are you reading the processor speed from?

Huh??? I almost thought you were posting in the wrong thread at first... this has nothing to do with how well Apple is supporting something as much as I want, I simply asked if this is normal? It seems to me it should downlock further in power saver mode. I'm wondering if it's an nvidia quirk, or something with the drivers, or if it's functioning normally?

Hmm that's interesting. So it would seem that with the new processors, the "default" clockspeed in power saver mode might just be 1.6GHz no matter the standard clock. So something is funky in XP that it's not halving the FSB. Unfortunately I no longer have Vista to test my theory.
I'll have to look into this further.

You could try download Everest Ultimate trial, because CPU-z doesn't really like me...

I'll look into that some time this week when I get the time. Thanks. :)
