I'm looking to buy a laptop and I've always fancied a Macbook, especially after trying a 3 year old Macbook for a few weeks last year.

Basically I travel for work and sadly my work laptop is locked down so I can't use it for any of my own music, video, browsing or any gaming.

I am keen to get a fairly small laptop which has drawn me back to the 13" Macbook / Macbook Pro as I know they are fairly small but also fairly well specced, I know that for all of my other needs, browsing, music, video the spec in any of the Macbook will be fine, especially as Mac OS seems to run so well! But I was wondering what sort of games I would be able to play? The most played game I have is going to be FM2010/2011 which I know is Mac OS compatible anyway and ran brilliantly on a 3 year old Mac so no worries there but I was wondering what other sort of games are able to be run, I was really thinking about games like Red Alert 2, Hearts of Iron and maybe some other strategy games? I know I would probably need to install Windows 7 to play some of them but any ideas how they would run?

Uh Red Alert 2 is so old that there probably is not a new PC that was sold in the past 5 years that could not run it at 100%.

That may be an exageration, but not really.

As far as more modern games are concerned it can run Starcraft 2 on low-medium. The 15" can run SC2 on high.

You can play pretty much most games, but intergrated graphics will only get you so far. Older games like Doom 3 and Tomb Raider Legend will probably be fine on medium if not high, World of Warcraft appears to run pretty well around high or with mixed settings, Crysis might run on low-medium, but don't expect anything fantastic. I'm not sure what the requirements are for FM2010, but you'll probably be alright on low-med. Newer releases in the foreseeable future will probably not be playable above low-medium.
You will indeed need to install Windows 7 for some games and generally, games run better on Windows 7. But they also run hotter, and MacBooks and MacBook Pros have pretty poor cooling, so you'll want to get a laptop cooler.

I just bought a macbook pro 13" base model yesterday. I also bought Starcraft II. Starcraft runs fine and the graphics are pretty decent everything is set at at medium by default. The only time I really lag is when extremely large battles occur on maps like Nexus Wars. The Macbook pro 13" does tend to get hot while gaming or streaming videos.

    Resolution: 1280 x 800
    Texture Quality: Medium
    Graphics Quality: Medium
    Lighting: Low
    Terrain: Medium
    Reflectors: Off
    Effects:Medium
    Post-Processing: Medium
    Physics: Low
    Models: High
    Unit Portraits: 3D
    Movies: Low

While building a base I get 43 fps with these settings.
