I have the base model MB on the way. I figured I would just plug one of my USB LG externals into it as I have no problems with my E1705 doing countless coaster free 48x CDR or 12-14X dvd burns.

Can we expect the same for the MB’s? I ask due to many people suggesting a $160 Lacie burner?

    TIA

In most cases we can. There are some cases where you will have to download some 3rd party drivers for the Macbook, but those cases are not frequent. I cannot guarantee you anything, but the $160 Lacie DVD burner is of very high quality and has been proven to work flawlessly with OS X.

    Thx Budding,

I wonder who the Lacie OEM drive would be and which chip set they use? Oh well, I'll just wait and see..I haven't used a Mac since B&W-8.6 days. One of my LG's has firewire so I may be good.

    Cheers

I plugged in my LG GSA-E40L 16X DVD burner. No Icon pops up in the finder but it shows up under the USB lists. If you insert a DVD movie disk, the DVD player sees and plays it. I did not check to see if iTunes would let you select it for burning.

I found free program called Shadowburn. When time permits, I’ll see if this will let me burn with the LG. Any other suggestions?

On a side note, I love how Tiger lets you handle ISO images and mount them. No third party drive emulation software needed.

Try Disco. Burns discs alot faster than Toast in my case.

Yeah, Linux and BSD do this as well. Microsoft still hasn't gotten the memo on that one I guess...

Of course, Linux also has integrated burning, even for DVDs, not just mounting.
