I did a quick search in this forum for LED and didn't come up with any threads I found particularly helpful, so I thought I would ask...

I'm in the market for a new laptop (either this summer or within the next year or so) and I have been wanting to switch to Apple for a long, long time. I'm just ready for something different than PC's and Windows. So my question is...

Will the regular MacBooks switch to LED backlight any time soon -- like say, this summer (not the Pros which already are)? I really would prefer to have a LED backlit MacBook since that seems to be the direction that Apple and laptops in general are heading, yes?

Are there any major differences between having an LED backlit screen for an Apple and not? I seem to remember someone doing a comparison test between the old MBP and the new LED MBP but I don't remember what the consensus was. LED provides lower energy consumption thus better battery life, more evenly backlit and thus better quality? Having a nice screen for my laptop is important as I use my laptop to watch A LOT of movies -- plus, with a graphically based OS like Apple's it would be nice to supplement with a beautiful screen!

Thanks for your inputs and opinions!

No one knows, it's all just speculation and rumours. Some believe that there will be a revamp of Macbooks in July/August, but no one knows for certain.
Of course, LED is newer and better technology. Screens using LED backlight are brighter and turn on quicker and have no mercury. For me personally, no notebook screen beats a good big high resolution external S-IPS panel.

Well, Apple promised to update to LED-backlit screens as soon as possible, but since the MacBook still doesn't have it yet, its obviously a play that the LED-backlit screens at this point are exclusive to the "high-end" models.
