Out of the to notebooks mentioned in my sig, which one do you think I should keep?

I bought a refurbished 2.0 MacBook for a good price, to try out the waters first. After falling in love with OS X, I decided to go with the MBP. I now have both but can't afford keeping them. I decided on selling the MacBook a while ago, but I'm now having second thoughts. I unfortunately dropped the MacBook and cracked one of the corners  , so I will have to sell it cheap if I decide to do so.

I chose the MBP for gaming, a better graphic card and a better screen. I haven't played a single game yet. After messing around with boot camp and parallels, Ive decided to stick with OS X and find a game that'll work on it.

Here are what I think are the pros and cons of both machines:

    Macbook:

    Pros:

    -smaller, lighter, more portable.
    -unexpected better keyboard.
    -better looking.
    -discreet and better battery life.

    Cons:

-no chance of gaming on this.
-core duo not core 2 duo.
    -smaller hard drive.

    Macbook Pro:

    Pros:

    -core 2 duo 2.17!!
-2gb ram, 3gb soon. explained here.
-excellent gaming capabilities as opposed to the macbook.
    -better screen.
-as thick as the macbook and heavier by only 200 grams.

    Cons:

    -more fragile.
    -less battery life.
-the hook that clips when closing the lid isn't as sufficient as you would think. with the lid closed, you can clearly see that the left side is looser than the right side.
-electricity travels around the aluminum case easily. maybe this is just me, but i swear that when it's on charge and my palms are on the palm rest I get electric shocked.

The bottom line is, I didn't regret getting the mbp but I think I should of gone with a black MacBook with all the works.

What do you guys think? Should I just sell the MBP or keep it and sell the macbook. Or should I try keeping both?

If it were me, I would keep the Macbook, especially given that the crack in the case will significantly impact the resale value. But then, you really should consider what you want to do with this machine. If you travel around with it a lot, the extra inches and weight on the MBP definitely add up. However, if that's not really a concern, but gaming really is, then perhaps you should keep the MBP and take what you can get for the MacBook.

Of course, the optimal solution is to keep both, if you can afford it. :)

how is the MBP fragile? MBP is made of aluminum while MB is made of plastic! and since you dropped the macbook and cracked its case, maybe that's a hint to the MB's build quality... Keep the MBP and sell the MB. You won't regret it. You're getting better specs on the MBP too, so why keep the MB with no graphics card and a lower cpu?

i dont know if this still happens, but earlier macbooks had the problem of the plastic turning yellow on the palm rests. that wont happen if the case is aluminum :)

edit: Hey, is it possible to contact apple and have them repair it? I had a friend who dropped his ipod and cracked his screen badly. He went to apple, and an employee tried fixing it but screwed the screen even more. the manager promptly gave him a brand new replacement...

The macbook and macbook pro both have advantages when it comes to the "strength" of the case. As you mentioned, the macbook may be prone to cracking when dropped, as it is made of plastic...however the macbook pro is much more prone to denting, as my friend has never dropped hers, but she has still accumulated a few small dents here and there. The discoloration does seem to occur over time with the white macbooks.

I would keep the MacBook if you are concerned about money. Otherwise, keep the MacBook Pro.

If your MacBook discolors, and is still under warranty, Apple will fix it.

Seeing how your avatar has a MBP it seems like you are leaning towards that. Money was an issue for me so I went ahead with a MB. My friend just got a MBP but I haven't checked it out yet..I don't game anymore but wouldn't mind having 3GB of RAM =p. 2GB is blazing fast already.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Seriously, I didn't expect this much help. The MBP is great, there are just a few issues that are bothering me. Anyone having electrical problems with it when the charge is on? Or is this just me? When I close the lid, the screen is not symetrically adjasent to the keyboard. I'm sure I misspelled at least a couple of words.

I just can't let go of my beloved MB, and when it's around I never use the MBP. I guess I could keep both and have the MB with me all the time and rest the pro on my desk.

Mines not straight either. But my case is.. a bit off.
and what do you mean electrical problems?

Well, if you don't use the MBP, then get rid of it. You can do some gaming on the MB. Just nothing too advanced. It can handle WoW perfectly fine.
Sell the MBP and buy a mac mini :)

My old cases were not very straight, but my new C2D is pretty much spot on.

Mine is the newer C2D :( How about the electricity problem. I swear, sometimes it's unbearable. When the charger is on, I can't rest my hand on the palm rest.
