Hi everyone,
as I'm currently looking for a TV tuner card for the ExpressCard slot of my MacBook Pro, I came across the "HP ExpressCard TV Tuner for Windows Vista" from HP:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/notebook/notebook_hp/audio_video/4/accessories/RM436AA%23ABA
As the name says, this seems to be a Windows-only solution, driver-wise. Optically, I really like this card, though, and I haven't found any other one so far that would even closely fit in with the MBP as much as this one.
Does anyone know if this card would also run on a MacBook Pro under OS X (XP or Vista under Parallels or BootCamp would not be an option)? I know a lot of the USB-based sticks from different manufacturers use the same hardware and are, thus, recognized by software such as elgato eyetv. Perhaps someone has already tried this out and could share their experiences.
Otherwise, maybe somebody knows of a really good ExpressCard product from a different manufacturer that would work in OS X?

I'm not sure about Mac OS X, but I would assume the TV Tuner should work under Windows if it claims to be a "Windows-only solution".

The HP card you have a link to would not work with the MacBook pro as it is a 54mm Express card /54 card which would be wider than the 34mm Express card /34 slot on a Macbook Pro. As near as I can tell there are no NTSC or ATSC Express card /34 card for Mac or PC. ATSC and NTSC are the US TV standards. However, there are Express card /34 solutions for Mac for DVB-T which is a UK standards. This doesn't help you though. Otherwise there are bus powered NTSC/ASTC USB based sticks that work with MacOS X. However I know little about these tuners and MacOS X.
However, if you or someone else was looking for a Windows based, USB 2.0 bus-powered solutions the Autumn Wave OnAir GT is a USB external tuner is available. Unlike many other tuners like it, it has an HDTV tuner that can handle both 8VSB and clear QAM. This means it can recieve and decode 8VSB or "over the air" OTA signals and clear QAM, or unencrypted HD cable. However you would still need an analog stick based tuner as the OnAir GT does not decode analog signals. -
I think this is the card you are looking for.
