    MacBook Pro won't boot

    So my friend's MBP (pre-unibody, 2008) won't boot. When you turn it on, you can hear the optical drive and HDD spinning, however no startup sound and no video on the screen. How could we troubleshoot this (apart from replacing the battery)?

    You can do an SMS reset but I bet you already did that. It seems like a logic board failure but I would advise to take it to Apple store to see if they can troubleshoot it.

    wouldn't be surprised on that model if it was a fried logic board because of a bad Geforce 8600....

    I think that Mac reliability will be much better when the last NVIDIA GPU is gone. NVIDIA really burnt a lot of buyers over the last few years including yours truly.
