    Heya all,

I've been trying not to let this bug me, but it really is, and I'm sad Apple hasn't fixed it.

Bearing in mind this issue occurred on both my MBPs, with fresh installs of Leopard, let me explain:

When waking from sleep, sometimes my trackpad ceases to respond, causing a stuttering all over the screen of the cursor. Sometimes sliding my finger on the trackpad results in the OPPOSITE direction being shown on the screen: i.e. sliding down and left makes the cursor move up and right! Very twisted! The only way to fix it is to hard reboot, as even keys don't respond correctly. After a reboot, everything is fine again. I think the problem is related to wifi, as some people on the Apple forums have said the problem doesn't happen when Airport is switched off.

Is this issue driving any others of you mad, because it sure is driving me nuts!

So you're seeing this issue with NO third party software or hardware installed? I have not seen this issue on my MBP or MB.

Is it even possible to leave your computer with nothing installed? I have very little installed on my MBP, and nothing - that I can think of - that would cause this issue.

I was trying to rule out any third party software or hardware (RAM upgrade). So have you performed a clean install (erase and install) of OS X? If not I would suggest that as well as removing any upgraded parts. Don't install any third party software and try using your machine for a couple of days to see if the problem still exists. If so Apple will need to be contacted. If the problem does not show up then install your third party software one at a time to see if you can narrow down the offending app.

i have had that happen once or twice, but I cannot honestly remember the last time it happened, and there were way to many variables to determine what may have caused it. definitely odd but like I said I think it has happened to be twice, and after the machine had been asleep for a very long time.

I was still able to use the cursor and keyboard however, the cursor was just very jumpy, I could easily restart and fix the issue, and since these machines restart incredibly fast, I didnt really worry about it.

I haven't had it happen to me since.

    is it happening often?

Do you have iStat Pro? That ALWAYS happened with mine when iStat Pro was running, if it even decided to wake up at all. After closing iStat Pro I've never had a problem with sleep mode again.

^that could definitely be causing it, I can almost assure you that I had iStat pro running at the time, but like I said, I have only had it happen a few times, and I have been running iStat pro for a very long time with now issues at all.

Hey I've had this problem too - really annoying. Finally get the keyboard freeze fixed, and now the cursor freezes. I do have iStat as well, so...

I have it too. I did some digging on the apple support forums and lots of people have it. I"m crossing my fingers for 10.5.2

it is a pretty small issue, in my opinion, but again I have had it happen like twice, I can imagine if it happened fairly often it would get very frustrating.

the best thing you can do is to just send feedback to Apple, and make sure to be very thorough, mention what things you believe COULD be causing it.

if it is a known issue they will often report back to you letting you know they are doing their best to take care of it. not always but sometimes.

this should probably be categorized as an issue with Mac OS X.

I will try ditching iStat Pro and see if that fixes it! Bit annoying since I actually quite like iStat Pro. Is there an alternative, should this be the cause of the problem?

How long did you wait before the hard restart? This used to happen when my MBP spent a long time looking for wireless networks after waking up, but since it finds it quickly, the stuttering stops as soon as the network is found and connected to.

I would wait over 10 minutes. The wifi is indeed disconnected, but never reconnects. I've actually also had this when leaving my system downloading torrents. I come back to my system and it's the same issue: disconnected from wifi network, and trackpad OR mouse going crazy. Have to hard reboot.
