    Hi again,

Now that I've decided to go with the MBP base model, I have a quick question regarding its RAM. I currently have a 1GB "DDR SDRAM" memory stick that I added to my iBook G4. Obviously, I would like to swamp it out and put it into the MBP, thereby achieving 3GB or RAM total. The MBP though is apparently "DDR2 SO-DIMM" type RAM. So, is my current 1GB stick compatible? Will I be able to install it in the new MBP???

    Thanks in advance,

Are you sure you have a slot for any more RAM? The Macbook Pro has two slots and if you already have 2x1gb then there would be no room.

    second what derelict said

also ddr will not work in ddr2, and from looking up it seems the ibook does use ddr so it will not be compatible

Thanks for the info. That is dissapointing to hear that they have gone with 2x1GB sticks instead of 1x2GB sticks... I guess they really want you to pay the extra arm and leg to upgrade the RAM huh.

no, It's because it would cost them almost double to put in 1 stick of 2GB rather than 2 sticks of 1GB Ram, thereby making the base price jump up that uch...

Also, they could market it as "dual channel" - whatever the negligible benefits of that may be in real life terms :p

It's still much cheaper to buy your own RAM though - you could get 2 2GB sticks now for like $100 now in the Hot Deals for RAM thread on this forum.

    I don't think you can get 2x2GB (4GB) for $100...

OOps you're right. I thought I saw a 2GB stick going for $54, but upon double-checking, it was only 1GB. Sorry.

The deals on that page aren't quite as good as what they used to be, alas. I bought my 4GB for $170 from ewiz a month back or so.
