Not such a positive way to explore a new computer, but oh well. I have not heard as much about MBP problems on various forums lately, either because the kinks are getting worked out or I'm just imagining it. Nonetheless, problems with the new MBP listed in the past are as follows (this is not a complete list):

    1. Heating issues due to sloppy thermal paste application
    2. Yellow tint on the bottom 1/3 of the screen not fixed by screen calibration
    3. Warped lid
    4. Headphone jack noise, possibly due to CPU or HDD usage
    5. Airport (the internal Wifi in the MBP) causing Kernel Panics (crashes)
    6. Exploding weasel popping out of the Superdrive (CD/DVD drive)
    7. Nothing else I have really heard consistently

Again, I do not believe these issues are the norm, but I have seen each of them at least twice. I'm confident most of the issues aren't very common except maybe the exploding weasel, I heard it was an infestation in the factory. Hard to get the darn things out. Apparently they wait for you to insert a disk and then ransom it for the free iPod. Clever of Apple to include a way for them to reclaim their "alleged" free Nano.

I've had no problems with mine as of yet. I've only had it for a bit over a week though.

fyi- i would have picked no problems had that been a choice.

instead i picked heat problems, which is entirely untrue. the notebook stays cool as long as you aren't gaming, or in windows.

and thats true about the detonation happy weasels inside the superdrive.
i had one of those. i brought it back to the apple store and they fixed the weasel no problems.

Hehe, that's like saying the the car will be good as long as you don't drive it. :D If the heat will become a problem during gaming, then APPLE shouldn't put an already under clocked 8600gt in it alone with it's price.

I'm going to disagree. People who plan to game and do hardcore graphics editing, video etc etc understand that the heat will be their. Part of having a 1" inch thick laptop constructed out of metal.

This poll isn't going to accurately reflect of the problems surrounding the new MacBook Pros...how come there's no "Absolutely no problems!" to choose? Most people will have no problems with their MacBook Pros.

There's going to be defects and lemons in every brand, every laptop lineup. These usually occur only to 1-2% of laptops manufactured, depending on the company.

I know its kind of scary when you cruise the forums and read about all these problems users are having, but keep in mind that if a user has a problem with their laptop obviously they would post a thread about it to see if other members can help. But there's many more users that have no problem with their laptop, so they don't post threads about it. You don't see: "I have a perfectly normal MacBook Pro!!" - type threads, but you see many more "I have a problem with my new MacBook Pro". I'd say its safe to just get a new MacBook Pro. As I said, most users don't even have accounts at forums, because they're busy doing their own thing because their laptop is fantastic. But those that do have problems will go call Apple or go on forums to look for help, making it look as if a specific laptop is full of problems.

Bad service shouldn't be a problem at all; I've heard nothing but fantastic reviews of the way Apple is very nice and helpful in its customer service - usually replacing a problematic laptop with a new, higher model.

LOL. Good luck with THAT. I have a Dell and it's great, but Dell is probably the only company whose laptop's problems have more sensationalized problems than Apple's.

Um...yeah. I think everyone agrees. I've never heard of a laptop that did not get hotter/louder when gaming or stressing the system. EVERY laptop burns up while gaming. This is just too funny.

I don't know then, My DELL Idles around 32C and Loads around 42C-50C (During WoW). I Wouldn't really call it burn up.

I am not saying the burn up isn't normal, just saying when it heats up to 85C it becomes a problem.

The first MBP I purchased had a problem of randomly just losing power (while on battery and also when plugged in) and shutting off. This started happening about 3-4 days after my purchase. I called up applecare and they arranged for me to exchange my MBP. No problems so far with the new MBP.

Weasels have feelings too. If you explode them, do they not bleed (profusely)??

What other problems have people had? Magsafe connector--melts in your hands, not in your mouth!

Also, I hear that if you repeatedly bash the MBP really hard against a sharp pointy object, it might have some problems. Also, it doesn't like baths.

sounds like you barely gave it a chance. I'm positive that apple would have taken it back in to fix it or they might even give you a new one.

I think there's a wikipedia article on reported MBP problems:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macbook_pro#Issues

    it's under Issues.

First off, more people are likely to post if they're having problems than if their machines are working perfectly; i.e. not many people will make a post saying "look, I have a perfect mbp!". Secondly, all apple stuff is highly publicized...so you're just more likely to hear news about them (whether positive or negative). Don't let bad experiences on the net sway you away from the machine...most of the laptops will have no problems. also keep in mind that nowadays, the average apple mac buyer is a switcher and thus knows quite a bit about computers, therefore you're more likely to hear about defects from those people just because they are simply more informed about computers (in general, anyway). just my $0.02

I don't think the MBP is more or less reliable than other laptops on the market. Everything these days is made by one of the ODMs in Taiwan or whatever, so your Apple isn't even made by Apple.

Apple people just tend to post about their problems more often. Dell, HP, Gateway, Sony...they all have their own issues. Computers are complicated, so there is always that small percentage that have problems.

Apple has the benefit of retail stores in most major metro areas, so if there is a problem you can just take a quick drive and get it fixed.

I have had no problems with my Core2Duo machine. The CoreDuo was, IMO pretty much a disaster. At least for me it was, I went through 3 or 4. I think all kinks since the Intel transition have been cleared up now and the problems you are hearing about are not very common. You should have put no issues as an option. Obviously, most of us fall in that category.

    Mine's perfect too!

Well, a VERY small amount of light leakage at the top..almost invisible under normal circumstances.

What else? Oh...one of the RAM i installed failed in 3 hours of use. Thats what i get for buying ultra-cheap ram. Oh well, least it has a lifetime warranty.
