I've been looking into getting a new MacBook Pro 15" (need to have that express card slot!) and noticed that there is that some of them come with either 3MB and 6MB L2 Cache. There's a 3MB on eBay for $1299 at 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 3MB L2 Cache and 320GB Hard Drive. And on Apple.com, there's a refurb at $1599 for 2.66Ghz, 4Gb RAM, 6MB L2 Cache and 320GB hard drive.

Which one is more worth it and does the 3MB and 6MB make that much of a difference?

Depends what tasks you are doing. If you are just doing everyday multitasking such as listening to music, surfing the web, viewing PDFs, word documents, etc. then you don't need it and won't notice the difference since you won't even be utilizing the lower one's full speed (SpeedStep).

the 2.66 on is the new gen i believe, if yeah, i suggest going for the 2.66 one as there is a huge boost in battery life.

There is a March and June version of the 2.66GHz. The March release has a 6MB L2 Cache, 9600GT 512MB VRAM, replaceable battery, and Express card slot. The June release has a 3MB L2 Cache, built in battery, SD slot, and 9600GT with only 256MB VRAM.

    March: MC026LL/A
    June: MB985LL/A

$300 is a good amount though. May or may not need the extra battery life.
