Your probably better of with a desktop if your on a budget. A cheap desktop with 6GB ram and an i7 can be built for less than a $1000.

Just to let you know I have Final Cut 7 on my MBP 15, which is over a year and half old.

Trust me when they say Desktop. I know my limitations and what you are asking it to do will take a long time. I'm not saying it can't be done but if you do not set up your system correctly it will drag. I have external raids and assorted other setups to make it work. But it's not my main editor. I also use 2 MacPros.

My laptop is used as a backup for video rendering, Live Type and simple projects.

The 13" will handle small projects, I use a Macbook and can outsource work to FCEXP on it. But to spend the money on FCP or Premiere and Boris and just rely on the laptop is a waste of money. You are not using programs to fullest.

So guys ... I really want to buy new laptop, I need it for video editing.

So I got 2 choices: MacBookPro (Lower Price) or Dell XPS 15 (with i7 and 1080) ???
I would run After Effects and Premiere on it ?

    Thank you guys !

Do you really need FCE, or will iMovie create the projects you are after??

I have a MacBook Pro 13, and I have FCE installed also. Although I havent actually created a real full-on project yet, but from my small test projects, its been fine.....

I think you really need to state how big/complex your video projects will be? If you're doing full-on video editting (ie: semi-pro production value in HD) it will be slow with the low cost MBP13. If you're doing glorified home movies, you could live with it.

I've done a feature length film on the Asus N61JQ. It sports a core i7, ATI 5730, expandable to 8GB of RAM, very good price. Make sure and put your footage on a nice external with Esata capabilities.

However, for adobe editing, I'd suggest you go with an Asus laptop that has geforce card so you can take advantage of the CUDA advancements (also, mercury engine tends to run better on Nvidia than ATI).

Yes, I done a spot of HD video editing and in Final Cut Express Ive been able to import 1080p video, and edit it perfectly fine. However, I did have some issues when trying to play back the raw content via VLC player (mts files from a camcorder), with frames being dropped etc. When burnt to a DVD the video played fine on a standalone player. Im not sure if this as due to settings in VLC player itself though, since as I said, the video played back in FCE and iMovie etc perfectly fine, and I could edit with ease.

The only thing I would recommend though, is a larger screen. I have an external monitor which I can plug into if need be - even though Ive never really used it. For my small projects the 13" has been fine for me, but there was the odd occasion where I thought a larger screen would have helped a little! Its whether you need the portability more, and then you can connect to an external diaplay when you need to do some real editing etc.....

Saying that, Ive been reading some reviews on the D90 as Im interested in getting into a spot of photography.......

You did not answer the question, where are these final projects going?

If you are doing an assignment for a class, something for yourself, a friend, YouTube, fine whatever, MBP 13 with FCE will do it.

If you are doing this for work, and you are being paid to provide professional results, then no this will put you OUT of work really fast.

You need a good windows machine for Adobe or Sony Vegas.

And you need a good Mac (Pro or MBP 17) for Final Cut 7.

You use cheap you get cheap results that take forever to create.

@ifti I can see that you have the bigger 13 but I would go on the cheaper so I don't know ... By the way I recommend you to go with Nikon D7000, it has better recording video options and some good futures. Nemanja Pribilovic | SmugMug thsi is my own photography site.

@Soloman I make like advance videos in Premiere and After Effects than upload on YouTube? Does it have differences running Pre and AE better on Mac OS than on Windows?

Since You Tube is H256 and/or Flash, Premiere is what you are looking for. FCP and FCE compressor is not greatest for those, you would need 3rd Party for better compression. That compression from .mov to mpg or flvv1 is what drags using MPB 13.

OR even better get Vegas. Sony Vegas NLE is amazing at being codex friendly. And a lot cheaper than Premiere, lot of bang for the buck.

But can it do HD editing without drags in Premiere ?
