    Hi,

People all around the internet are saying that the new MacBook Air might be the killer of the MacBook Pro 13. I want a MacBook Pro 13 with iX proccessors or even possibly the sandy bridge. I also hope they update the graphics. I was wondering that is it possible that what I said might happen by summer 2011. Many other people besides me appreciate the portability and preformance of the MPB13 and would love to have an upgraded version.

Please give facts, opinions and suggestions.

    THX :)

They're probably going to go straight to Sandy Bridge, I don't see why they would bump to the current iX processors when Sandy Bridge will be out by then.

Sandy Bridge Jan/Feb, so I suppose it'll be updated sometime in April. Do you think the MBA will get a cpu refresh even though it was just recently updated?

Will they remove the unneeded internal DVD drive from the 13" MBP?

LV and ULV processors aren't often released at the same time as regular mobile processors so it's unlikely the MBA will see a refresh at the same time as the MBP if they are targeting Q2. We also have no idea what the supply situation will be like for Sandy Bridge and whether they will focus on pumping out quad cores since Lynnfield is the most long-in-the-tooth in comparison to current dual core Arrandales. Quad core Sandy Bridge of course aren't likely to fit in the 13" MBP.

The GPU situation will be very interesting since nVidia seems to have shutdown it's chipset division, the 320M probably the last part to be completed, so Apple probably couldn't source an IGP from them even if the QPI/DMI licensing issue was resolved. So either Apple is going to just stick to Sandy Bridge's IGP, which could be a sidegrade from the 320M assuming good OS X driver support, which is unlikely, or Apple will be forced to put in a discrete GPU. Which with Apple's give and take could mean the optical drive will go to provide for extra thermal room and battery space. It's certainly still too early to forgo HDDs in the MBP.

Personally I hope Apple keeps the optical drive and uses hybrid optical drives with built-in Flash memory. That way you get both an optical drive and an SSD. Certainly the 64GB capacity is enough for the OS and a few key apps. Everything else will be on the HDD.

    I certainly hope so.

Then they could easily go with an i5/i7 and a good GPU with enough space for cooling.

Same here. I guess I'm not the only one who still likes having one.

I'm interested in what Apple do next. My SZ is getting a little on, i do prefer the 13.3 form factor as i own a 11.1 in ultraportable and will have it possibly for at least the next couple of years.

I would like a matte option and the display should be very good, it's been a hit and miss on this line. I also expect to see a high res display option. The glossy display is not a deal breaker though.

I would also like the laptop to have 3G/4G built in, this would make it pretty much a perfect laptop.
Also, i do prefer having an internal drive.
Now if Apple could do all of that i would buy one as a replacement for my SZ.
It must also use a current gen processor and weigh no more than 4.3lbs.

I agree about the 3G/4G built in. It's an option they should have for all their models.

I expect the new 13 MBP to have the MBA's 13" screen & resolution.
