    Hello!

I was just curious as to whether or not upgrading my MacBooks stock 80gb 5200rpm hdd to a 100gb (maybe 120) 7200rpm hdd. The reason I'm still deciding is because I'm not sure whether or not this voids my warranty. So my question - does it?

    Thanks!

No, it won't void your warranty. The MacBook is specifically designed to have an easily user-replaceable hard drive (unlike the MacBook Pro), and Apple even provides instructions on it.

No it doesn't void the warranty. Just unscrew the RAM door, and the Hard drive will be right there.

sorry to say, if you don't have a apple hard drive in your macbook and the macbook fails the hard drive will NOT be covered by Apples Limited Warranty, you will have to pay for a new drive, i know this as i work for a apple center

    Thanks

Ummm...of course? If you upgrade your own hard drive and it fails, Apple will not cover it.

some people upgrade the hard drive, but when the macbook fails within warrnty forget to replace the hard drive. sometimes its the hard drive at fault. some customers wants the thid party hard drive replaced under warranty.

Why would someone expect the Apple Warranty to cover your hard drive if you replace it?

I'm not sure what you meant by "if your MacBook fails"; if you mean like, if the hard drive somehow caused your entire MacBook to fail, it might be an issue, but I can't envision a scenario where the hard drive itself could damage the entire system.

The hard drive spins so rapidly, so much heat is created that the fans go on overdrive also, causing the MacBook to go up into flames. Always a possibility.. :D
