I got my new 2.2GHz White MacBook today and I'm really happy with it. I took a look at the Apple Logo on the lid in the dark and noticed that there are small areas of light that shine through when the backlight is near full. Is this normal?I'm not too worried about it, but it just caught be by surprise.

light is shining through the logo whenever the screen backlight is on, no worries, just clever design.

unless you mean you see other areas where light is coming through, besides the logo.

some people actually dismantle the screen back and insert an image or image silhouette of their own lit up.

The logo lights up in the dark. It's just style :p Does that on my MBP too.

Nooo not the logo lol! Some small areas of the white plastic that makes up the rest of the lid has some light shining through it when the backlight is set around high.

Edit: Sorry I realized my original post was a little unclear.

If light is leaking through the plastic seams, than the display probably wasn't assembled correctly. You should get that looked at by Apple. :|

No sorry, picture wouldn't show the areas because the apple logo is too bright. I'm not worried about it at all as everything else about this machine is working beautifully! :D I'm simply curious about it.

Plastic seams? Hmm it's the solid plastic piece in the back and it can only be seen in the dark with the backlight turned to almost full.

Cover the apple logo with something and then take a picture. Just tried this with a white macbook and there was no light that I could see.

No luck sorry. But covering the logo, I was able to see the silhouettes of all the interior workings of the display... Maybe I'll give AppleCare a call tomorrow...

Edit: There also seems to be a lot of light leakage with the screen as well...

That's weird, the lid is not supposed to show any light through. The logo, yes, though :p. Yes, call Apple about it, that's a good idea.

Yeah I'm not too concerned about it. I'm more worried about the amount of light leakage and I can't help but feel that they may be related. Do MacBooks usually have some light leakage?

I know exactly what you mean. There is I think... one or two small spots where I can see white light shine through, however, it's only noticeable when the room is completely dark. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Have you tried covering the logo with something and then taking a look? I'm able to see the silhouettes of the interior components of the display... Maybe I just have x-ray vision... :p

Well... I can only see one or two light "spots"... I don't think I've seen any silhouettes of anything.

It prevents the bright light from the logo from hindering your vision of the fainter light that shines through areas of the white plastic.
