Just ridiculous if you ask me. A non-user replaceable battery is a poor choice, and nothing but Apple's attempt to further bleed users of money.

how is this bleeding users of money? a replacement is the exact same cost as any other battery available from Apple, and they have said installation will be completely free.

I know no one that actually uses multiple batteries with a their laptop.

I am sure it would be about the same as any other laptop, which is usually around the 3 year mark, as long as their are now hardware issues.

the problem is not the cost. $129 is about standard for this type of battery (although it is pretty steep). the issue is the 5 day turnaround. Who wants to be without their computer for 5 days.
I personally would feel comfortable doing it myself but there is the issue of voiding warranty--although I guess if it's 3 yr old that is no longer a conern.

well if you live in a major city there is most likely an Authorized Apple service center in your area that can do this task I would think, and most major cities have an Apple store now as well.

not having a user replaceable battery is probably a main reason they were able to make the machine as thin as it is, as well, as being a way to reduce weight. that is my guess why they built it as they have.

Not Vancouver yet! We're getting one now, but we should have had one a long time ago...considering basically any U.S. city with 500'000+ population has one, yet Vancouver with 2.2 million doesn't...

I'd expect about two-three years, unless the battery was defective. If the battery is defective, Apple will replace it for free.

It seems like a lot of you assume it would be easy to just run down to the Apple store, the nearest one to me is around Detroit, thats like a 45min to an hr drive depending on traffic.

The nearest Canadian Apple Store to me is in Toronto, a 5-hour flight away! Stop complaining! :p

Yeah, if I ever need an Apple Store, until the Vancouver one opens I'd had to go to Seattle, which means crossing borders, yuck.

I HATE crossing the border, the last time I went to windsor they almost wouldnt let me back in the US.

And whats up with your weird traffic lights, last time I flew out to Vancouver I was told you guys have lights that always stay red and you have to get out of your car and hit a button to turn them green, WEIRD

Haha. I believe those are suppose to be pedestrians crossings, and there aren't too many cars that go through that way, so it almost neverrr changes. :p So most people just get out and press the button to make it change manually. But even then, sometimes the crosswalk buttons seem to do nothing.

Wow, people are stressing over the length of time it would take for Apple to replace the Air's battery even before the Air is released and even after that it would be at least 2 years before a battery replacement is necessary unless defective. I wouldn't make that part of my buying decision. Just the fact that Apple is performing the service for free is a deal maker.

it is not only important to think weeks in advance, but 2-3 years in advance as well ^_^

what is really funny is that the people stressing out about where probably not planning on buying a MacBook Air in the first place.

Yeah, what's even funnier Circa about stressing over the Air's battery replacement is the fact that most of the notebook users end up replacing their Macbooks long before the battery needs replacing.

I hear it all the time, "I've had my MBP for 3 months and the new Penryn processors are coming out so I'm selling my MBP to get the new Penryn".

Some of the posters on this forum barely keep their Macbooks past 1 year so the battery issue is moot at this point. ;)

BTW, is your forum name coming from the skate shoe manufacturer?

I'm just guessing, but I think "circa" as in, "Since <insert year>", and he was born in 1986 ;).

i really like the way the word looks and sounds for some reason and I found it is not a commonly used username at all, so I am always able to use it for everything.

it is coming more from the original meaning of the word (approximately) although I am a fan of the shoe company as well. although Circa the shoe company has kind of lost its way, they were making some really fantastic shoes in their first few years.
