I've just ordered my Macbook Pro and want to buy a few games for when i get it - at the moment I can't really play PC games because the desktop i use isn't that great and it also slows down the computer a lot!

If I were to get Call of Duty 2 and Knights of the Old Republic it would cost around £30 for PC but to get the Mac versions would set me back an extra £30. Is it really worth this extra money or should I just leave windows to the games side of things and run boot camp whenever i want to play them?

    Thanks

Run Bootcamp and leave gaming to windows. Most games today are windows only, so you would be forced to boot into windows anyway for them. So why pay extra for 1-2 games that are available for Mac.

If you do have a spare copy of Windows, and don't mind restarting your Mac every once in a while (unlike me), then I would recommend you go for the PC versions, as they are more versatile in the sense that you will be able to install them on your future PC rig.

But, if you're planning to stay a Mac user for long, and am planning to purchase a Mac Pro as your next desktop replacement, get the Mac versions.

I don't think i'll mind restarting it every once in a while 'cause it probably won't be all that often that i'm playing games, and the extra money could go to good use :) So would the performance of say, Call of Duty 2, be similar running on the Mac to Windows in Boot Camp?

In Bootcamp, windows run natively, so i would think that CoD2 will run probably better in windows than in Mac as it has been optimized for Windows.

Or become a supporter of only Blizzard games! Then you can play games natively in Mac OS X!

Starcraft II FTW ;). Although I'll be playing it on my desktop PC, because this MacBook will not run it well, or even at all.

The Windows version will play better. Mac OS X uses OpenGL, while Windows uses DirectX for most of the games. OS X's implementation of OpenGL is not fantastic; Windows does OpenGL and DirectX very well. So I would say game in Windows.

It's sad but true. Apple is currently hiring programmers well versed in OpenGL, so it appears as if they're trying to remedy the situation, but it won't be for a long time.
