    Hey Spazy,
The machine you have currently could still be considered a good overall machine. Your need to upgrade depends completely on what you want to do with the machine. If you are going to use it solely for Windows, I don't think you should upgrade yet. When the new 'Merom' Core duo processors are released in August, Apple will surely upgrade their notebooks to the Merom processors (faster, offer 64bit capabilities). Apple is also slated to release OSX 10.5 (Leopard) between August and December, which will contain a revised version of "boot camp", so Windows should run even better.

Gaming wise, the Macbook Pro has the underclocked X1600, which will score ~3000 in 3dmark05 with stock clock settings and Apple drivers. Your go6600 will be about 2/3 as powerful compared to the underclocked x1600 in the Apple.

The Macbook Pro 17inch certainly appears to be an awesome computer, but if you can wait until August the updated computer would be a much more worthwhile upgrade. For the time being, try another 512mb RAM, it certainly helps in gaming, as well as general use.
    Hope that helps,
    Steve

The 17" MBP is way to new to have a review already - I suspect it'll take a month or two before we get one and about a month or so before places like CNet will have them.

I'm been surfing the macrumors forum and several people over there have gotten their MBPs in. Here's a few blurbs,
There's also been some bad things. One guy's screen went DOA 10 minutes after startup. But he talked to apple, and they've sent him a new one on express. A few others have complained about the latches that hold the screen down, but oddily they've all fixed themselves. Not the users, but the latches just started to work.
That's basically all for now. It looks like the major problems have been fixed and everyone seems happy with their purchases. Even the guy with the ****ped out screen, it still kinda works and he's been playing on it and enjoying it.
ahem, sorry for the long comment

Very interesting insight to the 17" MacBook Pro but I still couldn't find any info about whether the GPU is still heavily underlocked in this model. It would be really nice to know...
