I decided to upgrade my Vista/Fusion installation to Windows 7/Fusion today on my Alu unibody Mac.

The experience took a couple of hours, and I have to say it was a nervous operation.
A few heads up for those making the trek....

The setup program would not run until I uninstalled McAfee completely. Just disabling does not do the trick.

The mouse button stopped working several times at key junctures, when it is asking for input. Pressing the escape key after bringing up the VMware menu bar seems to alleviate the problem.

I could not re-install McAfee after the installation from the VMware menu bar. I'll have to see if I can do it later from the Fusion install disk.

After installation, Windows 7 seems to to function OK, but I did not do any in-depth testing as I'll want to have a working antivirus before I proceed further. If I can't get McAfee back on, maybe I'll install AVG's free AV.

More later.... Let's hear your experience...

When you say "/Fusion" do you mean you upgraded a virtual machine?

Cuz virtual machines run in sandboxed fake hardware and could care less what the host is. I have Virtualbox disk images I can freely move between Windows, OS X, and Linux hosts on multiple machines and the guest OS's don't know any wiser.

I have Windows 7 installed native (ie. through Boot Camp) on my 17" uMBP. The trackpad driver is too touchy to be considered "safe" but otherwise it works fine. I haven't run it on battery so I dont know the battery life.

I have Win7 Ult x64 installed on my 13" MBP via Boot Camp and using Fusion 3.0. I haven't used it all that much yet, the only thing that doesn't seem to be right is that the optical audio output is always on when using Win7 through Boot Camp. Win7 through Fusion 3.0, the only thing I've noticed not quite right are my desktop gadgets have graphical glitches, but no biggie for either situation. For the track pad, I was pleasently surprised that 2-finger scroll and 2-finger right-click works in Win7 too, but no other gestures obviously. All-in-all, fairly minor gripes and totally liveable. Interested to see when Apple officially updates Boot Camp for Win7 what gets improved.

I haven't done a full battery drain in Win7 via Boot Camp, but Win7 reports 3:30 on a full charge. Obviously not as good as OSX, but still usefully long and better than most other 13" PC notebooks without an extended battery.

Also FYI, I did the Boot Camp install, then set my Fusion to use my Boot Camp partition rather than creating a VM file.

The 13" only has the 9400, your 15" is stuck in 9600GT mode as is everyone else with the dedicated videocard, which helps drain your battery even quicker.

Running win 7 pro 64 bit via bootcamp on a 1st gen unibody and the expresscard slot does not work in win 7. Turns out it is a known issue and no one (nvidia/ms/apple) is taking responsiblity - kind of a bummer. Otherwise it works fairly well. Super twitchy trackpad and it runs hot under windows. Defintely doesn't run windows better than...like the pr department at Apple would lead you to believe.
