I ran a similar thread like this a few months back, but most of the members then are gone, and we've had lots and lots of new Mac users, so I thought I'd create a new thread to hear the opinions of the newer members.

Anyways, the point of this thread is to become a suggestion box. What would you like to see in future Macs? What features would you like to add, take away or modify? Sound off!

The suggestion can be towards Mac hardware and Mac OS X as well.

I'll start. I'd like to see a DVI port in future MacBooks, instead of a Mini-DVI. Also, I'd like more customization on OS X, and I'd like to see more USB ports on both the MB and the MBP.

I'm not sure of non-Mac owners are allowed to make suggestions, but if so, I'd like to see a 14" MacBook Pro. :)

Better yet, a 13.3" Macbook Pro with LED backlighting, 64 GB (or greater) SSD, and a weight of less than 4.5 lbs.

A remote that fits into the card slot on the side.

One or two more usb 2.0 ports.

The option to organize by type in column view.

    HDMI port

Yeah, HDMI output would be nice. But honestly, I'm okay with the DVI on the MBP.

On the 15" MBP, have an onboard video card that you can switch to when you need more battery life.

And a MBP that actually goes to sleep and doesn't randomly wake up, or happens to not wake up when you try to wake it up :p

    HDMI.

A new mouse with dedicated left and right click buttons; same thing for the MacBook and MacBook Pro's button.

Make the aluminum Apple Wired Keyboard's USB2.0 ports function with all Macs  <-- I'm bitter about this one.

Actually Eternal, I would disagree about the two button thing. While I would have loved that when I first migrated to the MBP, now I loathe having two buttons on my MBP. But thats kind of each his own there.

And yeah Ghost... heres another. How about a new Desktop that is like the MP but not based on Xeons, so we can freaking get SLI.
Not that I could afford spending what they would ask for it.

You have two buttons on your MBP?!!! Want to trade? Mine only has the one. Just kidding, I know what you meant ;).

17" LED 1920x1200 MBP <-- it's already on the way, supposedly.

    And Blu-Ray.

    heh... nice catch eternal.

    But no.. NO BLU RAY!

Sorry... I just prefer HD to Blu-Ray. But, I don't like Sony. Japanese version of MS and all that... They both have their + and - but yar. I push for HD-DVD. Plus, thats a MAJOR premium in a laptop. Not one that I think many people would be willing to pay for.

But yar, a new 12" MB and hey... a 13.3" MBP.

Unfortunately Apple officially supports Blu Ray and not HD DVD, so unless HD DVD wins the format war we'll be stuck with either none of the hi-def formats or we'll get Blu Ray.

    1. Intel Xtreme X7900 Processor (for now, I'd like Penryn too)
    2. a new sleek design, but much sturdier material, without adding flex
    3. better cooling system without adding depths or noise
    4. ipod nano that works as an apple remote and fits in the expresscard slot and functions as a SSD card
    5. spill-proof keyboard
    6. Blu-Ray writer
    7. more USB ports, including 1Amp ones
    8. eSata port
    9. HDMI
    10. at least 2MP swivel iSight
    11. WSXGA+ resolution on 15"
    12. DX10.1 card at least
    13. at least a 200Gb 7200rpm hdd, probably more by the time this comes out
    14. Turbo Memory that works
    15. Be able to switch between integrated and GPU
    16. Fingerprint, retinal, and voice biometrics scanner
    17. LED keyboard capable of showing any keys on the backlight instead of the programmed set ones (see million dollar keyboard)
    18. Multi-touch trackpad that doesn't take up the palmrest and doubles as a writing pad.
    19. multi-touch LED, flexview screen that is just as thin.
    20. Nvidia preface (smaller screen on top of lid)

An ultraportable version of the Macbook Pro (and I don't mean 13.3", that's too big - the 12" Powerbook was nice, something like that but widescreen would be sweet).

I'd like a Mac Mini with the following specs:
    • Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 GHz
    • 2 GB memory (up to 4 GB, easy user replaceable)
    • Dedicated NVidia 8600 GT (at least 256 MB on board)
    • 500 GB HD spinning @ 7200 RPM (easy user replaceable)
    • Blu-Ray disc drive (easy user replaceable)
    • $599 for the above options

Cheaper Apple Cinema Displays. Honestly, I know they are running those new I-SPI LG-Phillips screens but they only have a response time of 15ms, and my MBP has a response time of 16ms!!!

I want that 23" so bad though....

Blu-Ray is pulling ahead in the HD-DVD war. As of now Blu-Ray may be a bit more expensive than HD but it can store much more than HD and almost all the major Movie Producers are supporting it. I don't know that much about them but I have read up on this just recently and that is what I heard. Seems like there is no hope fr HD...

No... HD is dead already... which is a big disappointment. But it's fairly old news now. I know my dad has had nothing but problems with BRD (he's on his 3rd player now).

And you are incorrect about storage. Common BRD and HD discs are 25 gb. They both can hold up to 50. And HD movies were the only ones supporting backwards computability with normal dvd players.

But oh well... this could still become another war like DVD-A and SACD.

Still waiting for my ultra portable MBP/MB!

I would love to see, as others have mentioned, a 13.3" LED-screen black/dark cased MBP sporting a Penryn chip and hybrid graphics (like the Vaio SZ series). Nothing more, nothing less. I would buy it in a heart beat.

lol, I stumbled on your thread via another thread that had a link to this one.

Think its likely that the Mac Mini will get a serious boost anytime soon Sam? I've looked at the iMac, but realized I just want something small to serve as a desktop machine. The thing is, the tasks I wish the Mini to undertake would put a serious strain on it (i.e. gaming, video editing, 3d modeling, etc.).

Granted, I do now own the impressive MBP which could handle all those things but its a pain to have to hook it up all the time to my monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. Plus, it has a serious footprint on my desk anyway so thats why I'm looking into getting something much more smaller.

You have heard right. There's been a lot of testing of the PS3 against 1st and 2nd gen BD standalone players and the PS3 consistently rated best in IQ, load times etc.. (there's a lot of info on this on AVSforum)

Also, the PS3 is capable of any BD profile that may come down the line with a firmware update. So PS3 owners are safe when/if BD profile 2.0 comes. Not so for standalone players.

The rumour that we'll see a $299 PS3 this year only strengthens its position as a gaming/BD player hub.

i love my MBP but i would like to see atleast four USB ports on the 15" model. and i think a carbon fibre case option would go down nicely
