Noticed the 20" Cinema is off the website AND the configurator for the Mac Pro...looks like a cinema refresh is coming VERY soon...how can they sell a Mac Pro with no choice of monitor besides the 30"...maybe next week?

Also decided I'm going to buy a Mac Pro to accompany the macbook pro. Gonna go with the monitor I have now..or the 27 inch Dell...then adjust later if a great cinema comes out. This way with Dell I can connect MBPRO, Mac Pro, AND my XPS desktop to one good display.

My question is are the NEW cinemas going to somehow connect to the mac pro desktop?? Display port video cards?

Apple has stated that, going forward, all new models and monitors will utilize DisplayPort.

So graphics cards must be going display port also? I guess the good thing is you could always swap out a graphics card for one with display port if you had to...

Slowly, manufacturers have been pushing out cards with display port. The junk thing is that apple uses the mini display port. While it's open licensed now, people are slow to pick up on its development.

It's quite frustrating that apple has been so slow to get these new cinemas updated...now a buyer of a mac pro desktop have just the 30" option...that seems very silly to me.

True....but I wonder what the refresh is going to be for the Mac Pro and the Cinemas...it looks like they are getting ready since they are the only systems really due....I hate to buy then find out they are brand new. Anyone know of any rumors on a new mac pro?

Here is the config I'm thinking of going with:

    mac pro desktop
a single Xeon Proc 2.8ghz (is this smart)
    2GB RAM
    300 GB SAS HD
single ATI 256 MB Card (for a 30 cinema at most)
one superdrive (reason I may need 2?)
    airport extreme card
    3 year apple care

Either 30" Cinema OR if I may try to find a 23" ACD for a decent price from a reseller around here who has one left in stock or online from one of the mac resellers you guys all know.

I use it mostly for Ilife programs, and will be learning Final Cut Express.

I thought I read that Apple was finally releasing an adapter (other than mini display port) for the new cinema displays ????

Would be nice if it was true and when that would be a reality for everyone trying to convert to the newer displays !!!!

I am sure that they are coming! There are couple of issues though-

1)Apple is waiting for new Intel Xeon CPUs
2)There is a legal battle between nVidia and Intel now and I think that apple is waiting for them to end the war.

    Yup, I've got one, the Early 2008 model (8-Core 2.8GHz). It's nice.

Unfortunately, I've been playing the waiting game with Apple to release a newer display. The new 24" is what I'd like... but I can't use it. Hopefully they come out with something shortly that will adapt DVI to Mini-display port, because I'm getting antsy in the pantsy to set my Samsung LCD aside (and attach it to my PC) because it's just not doing it for me.

Apple does need to make this display option happen soon though, or I'll just give in and buy one from somebody else.
