We already know too much about the normal GUI in OS X right? so lets learn about the core of it all! ^_^

Post all over your favorite site, info, how-to's, and any general information about UNIX in Mac OS X

this is definitely the site to start with:

    http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=40648

and here are is a good place to look for some customization commands:

    http://osxdaily.com/category/command-line/

let's see what we can learn. I will do my best to get this thread organized and keep this top page updated.

It's not like people didn't know that it was based on FreeBSD...
There was an application made that allowed BSD applications to run on MacOS.

Actually, there are 2 ways to obtain the sources/binaries: fink and darwinports...

But it's more or less compatible even without it. That's why I like mac - it's a bsd with a very-very nice WM :)

    Agreed.
PS: I don't always want to use 10 characters. It spoils the fun.

What I'd like to see eventually, is a translucent terminal. I like being able to see through it for many reasons.

But sadly we're behind with that aspect. I can still dream though!

Where do you send suggestions to Apple anyways? I want to fire off an email about that.

Edit; I'm an idiot. Googled it fast, and found out how to make it translucent... so hit me or something. :D

haha, I was just about to post up another screen shot. it really is nice of Apple to allow so much customization of it.

finally made an attempt to compile and run programs right from source code, fun fun geeky stuff.

the best part about this is that I could actually apply some of this knowlege to other UNIX based systems

Yar.. I don't think most people realize that OS X can run Linux/Unix software as long as we have access to the source and compile.

OS X sure is a heck of a lot prettier than Solaris! The old school Solaris X Windows was so ugly... they made a Java based GUI that looks like windows and is much faster. But OS X is still prettier :-D
