Well I think I have finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a mac book. I've narrowed it down between the MA699LL/A and MA700LLA

I was wanting to limit myself to $1200 so the MA699LL/A with the option of upgrading the ram through newegg or another vendor seems like a pretty good deal. The only problem is that I can't seem to find which proc it's running. I know it's a core 2 duo but I don't know which version. I believe the MA700LL/A is running the T7200. Does anybody know which one the MA699LL/A has?

Also, does this seem like the right notebook for me? I am a web developer running Dreamweaver and Fireworks at the same time and occasionally Flash. I realize the MBP would be better but I don't have that kind of money.

    All Help is appreciated.

    Thanks - Mike

The MacBook (MA699LL/A) you speak of has the Core 2 Duo T5600 processor, which is 1.83GHz.

Also, does this seem like the right notebook for me? I am a web developer running Dreamweaver and Fireworks at the same time and occasionally Flash. I realize the MBP would be better but I don't have that kind of money.

It sounds like a pretty good choice for you, as long as you either have Dreamweaver and Fireworks for Mac, or you don't mind buying the Mac versions of them if you don't have them yet.

    Hope this helps.

I've got no problem getting them. Software I can get through my company for cheap, not so much the hardware end of things though

If you are cool with the screen size, and you are definatly set on a Mac, then why not?

None of that is terribly demanding, and the Macbook performs nearly as well as the pro so long as 3D is not involved.

Go for it, it seems fine. You may want to wait for Santa Rosa macbooks if and when they come out.

You could wait and see what is announced at the WWDC in June, since that's not too far away - but as others said before me, from your description of your needs, if the programs you need are available for Mac (and even if they're not, I'm sure there are equivalents - web design is not an area in which I know much about what programs are available, unfortunately) then the Macbook as it currently stands will be fine for you, and any possible upgrades coming soon will just be icing on the cake.

I believe it is the T5600. The problem with that processor is it only has 2MB of cache, where as the T7200 has 4MB. That can really help with performance. I would go for the T7200 if you can afford it.

Those prices are terrible. I think the Mac website has better prices if you use your student discount. I am assuming that you are a student though.

EDIT: Here the price you can get with a student discount.
