I've been looking at reviews all over the internet for the Mac Mini. The problem is, I can't read any. I got used to the reviews here at NBR and find others lame. I know this isn't a laptop but does anyone have any comments or advice about the mini. I'm getting mine today 1.83 core duo, 512mb ram, 80gb hd. I've had both the macbook and the macbook pro, how is this compared to them?

I've read that the Mini HDD is quite slow. Not sure if this applies to the latest models though, so you might like to check that. Apart than that, it is said to be a decent machine, like the 1st gen Macbook (don't expect too much gaming performance from it). See if the concept fits your needs though; I think the lower end iMac may be a better deal.

I don't really see the point in a Mac-Mini unless you're really strapped for cash. A Macbook is just as good AND it has a built in mouse, keyboard and screen.

The Mac Mini is just a less portable Macbook really - pretty much the same hardware in there.

They're very reliable little machines, I love them myself and certainly want one some day - I just don't have the need right now :) Not sure if the Intel ones are as quiet and reliable as the G4s were, but I would imagine they are because I have seen no complaints related to the Intel ones.

Yah, pretty much what everyone else said. They seem to be solid, cheap little macs. Just not very fast.
Get a MB if you can. Remember, you still have to have the cash for the monitor... so at that point, you're only a few hundred away from a refurb MB or a brand new base model.

I already have a screen, keyboard and mouse. I went ahead and got a mini today, I love it. I also got a BT white sexy keyboard. I couldn't resist it. I didn't go with a macbook because I already have a laptop, I wanted a machine that'll be running 24/7 downloading torrents and movies. I will save up for a huge external hard drive for lost, prison break, heroes, movies and songs.

Heh, alright, a Lost fan :-D

Yah, I have my linux server doing that right, but I'm down to one working HDD, and I don't have money to buy more.

I'd love to get a stack of mac minis man. They're perfect of doing parallel processing. Awesome little design, cheap... Pretty neat for none heavy use.
