I recently owned a Sony Vaio that had a Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8ghz chip. If I buy a used MacBook with a Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8ghz chip in it, will it have the same performance as the Vaio. I guess what I'm getting at is that do the Intels performs the same in a Mac as they do in a PC if the components are mostly the same, I.E. memory, hard drive, video card, etc. Thanks

It'll be the same processor. You'll probably experience faster times on the mac due the OS X and Apples ability to code strictly for that hardware(optimized, opposed to Microsoft who makes general stuff for a huge range of hardware).

Yep, that and the education discount from the apple store are very good deals. If you're not a student, and don't want a refurb check ebay and amazon.com(though I would strongly suggest a refurb from apple over ebay).
