I got into a discussion with some folks at work (an engineering firm) last week that were contemplating replacing their old PCs at home. I touted the merits of the Mac of course, and they asked that I bring in my wife's 15" MBP so they could see what Apple was all about these days. Two guys (both engineers) went out and bought Macs over the weekend to replace their home PCs. One more person (an atmospheric scientist) has one sitting in their Amazon cart. :D

I just thought it would be fun to post this since many technical folks still seem to think about Macs as graphics computers, but the draw of having a friendly, functional home computer is gaining ground!

Hehe, yeah, Macs still have a lot of stereotypes that need to be ironed out. Like people thinking its only for graphic designers, and people thinking they're slow, that they can't game, and that they can't get viruses (which is not true, unfortunately. Macs haven't gotten major viruses yet, but doesn't mean it can't).

And Apple's Get a Mac ads aren't really helping it either, eh? :D

Stereotypes I have heard is that mac users are generally emo people, or gay.

Completely ridiculous, but thats what Ive heard people say.

That's a very bad stereotype...sigh...unfortunate, really. Hopefully that will change over time.

My old roommate was what I figured was a stereotypical Mac user: degree in computer science, proficient guitar player, complete music geek, drove a Volkswagen, owned every single Nintendo console ever made, and had a goatee. :D

macbook has pretty much become the standard equipment in my university.
I don't see why people get a HP or Acer nowadays. Macbooks might be a tad bit more expensive. But it has better design and it can run both windows and OSX.

It's so true... in the Student Union Building, I probably see 10-15 MacBooks and/or MBPs everyday. The MacBook appears to be perfect for the college student nowadays...
