At the apple store today I was playing around in OS-X and they had office 2008 installed so to test the keyboard out i open word....

well i thought i was doing something wrong or the system had crashed but it took like 10-20 seconds for word to fire up.

    Is this normal?

Would it be this slow if i ran Vista (via boot camp)?

I'd say that's not normal, Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 should be faster than before as its finally Universal Binary and you don't need Rosetta to run it.

    LOL, good one!

When I first open Word, it takes up to 15 seconds to launch.

It's possible it was the first time Word 2008 was launched on that particular machine. Usually once an app has launched for the first time in OS X, subsequent launches will almost always be much faster.

Did you get a chance to quit it and then try launching it again, to see if it still took that long?

Thats normal for the first time. After that it is cached and much faster. 2004 is the same way.

Takes me just under 7 seconds on a vista machine, dunno if this helps!
