I remember that Macbook Pros, at least the first ones I saw, had matte screen and the Macbooks have glossy screens.

However, I saw a student the other day using a MBP with a glossy screen as I could see all the light reflecting off of it.

Do newer MBPs have glossy screens, is it an option? Or maybe that guy had it installed instead?

I was looking at the screen at an angle, but it was still incredibly dim though. Not a screen I'd like to work on but I did look at it from an angle so its probably nothing.

You can choose between glossy and matte screens when you order your macbook pro for no extra charge.

Well, as I understand it... the glossy's have better viewing angle, and brighter screens, though the color accuracy is a bit off compared to matte screens. But Fidy is right, it's an free option to get the glossy.
