I had to call apple technical support due to a faulty magsafe adaptor. They had me restart the computer holding down the Apple, Option, P, R keys together. Now it seems that the computer can't remember my brightness settings. Every time I turn it on it is at the highest brightness setting :(

System preference --> Display --> Uncheck "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes." If this is checked then it will adjust based on the light around you and not your previous setting.

I tried that.. doesn't help. I usually have it turned off anyway. It always remembered my brightness level on startup (before the OS even loads) so I'm not sure if erasing the HDD and installing leopard again will help :(

Apparently this is a problem that other people have been having for some time now..

Sorry to post again on this thread but I called Mac support twice and spent about an hour each time and no one could find a solution :( I also searched all over the internet and can't find a solution.

I'm in Dublin, Ireland and we don't have a store for me to take the computer to. I really don't want to have to ship it out and risk getting it back scratched up or having a replacement with dead pixels and such.. blah - not to mention that I really need the computer every day.

If anyone has any ideas of how to find a solution to this problem I'd really, really appreciate it.

codeoverride, I'd wait for a patch, or try a full reinstall of Leopard. I had to wait for MONTHS for 10.5.2 to fix the screen going black after 3 minutes of idle time (no matter what the settings), so you might need to wait, too. The fact that others are now experiencing the same issue as you will probably get the problem fixed sooner rather than later. It's clearly a software bug.

Update: I decided to just erase everything and install the OS again from scratch. Thankfully that fixed the problem.
