Does anyone use one? My friend got one for his and sent me a pic and it looks kind of interesting, but I'm worried about the glue.

it's ugly but if you have acidic sweat it does stop the aluminum from pitting and looking absolutly TERRIBLE

That is Fugly with a capital F on a silver machine. I use the Invisibleshields to get the Macs somewhere towards everyday-handleable (i.e. a bit closer to superior Windows machines I don't have to house in velvet cushions in order for it to stay working / remain reasonably presentable in normal use).

When I clicked into the thread I was assuming it would be a solution for the form-over-function razor-sharp corner of the front of the unibodies. I'd like a solution for that.

I hear you loud and clear on that one. The older Macbooks were even worse.

Zagg's InvisibleShield clear protectors are a pain in the a$$ to put on, and leave bubbles because its just a soft, thin film applique.

The real deal is the Moshi PalmGuard, which comes COLOR MATCHED (it actually looks like aluminum) to the MBP, 13, 15, and 17" sizes available for around US$20.

I'm using the Moshi and you have to look real close to see it on, and it comes with a FULL wristwrest cover and touchpad cover (which does NOT affect operations AT ALL!). It does add a nice slight texture to the palmrest and touchpad though, which I personally like for traction. (not slippery when palms/fingers are sweaty/moist.

PM me if you need details.

They are quite a pain in the butt. Try putting on six in the course of two days (or well, clearly you wouldn't) - drove me mad. The bubbles do go away, if you're unfortunate enough to get them.

But I do like how they come cut to protect a large part of the notebook in a fairly comprehensive manner - not just the palmrest. For me, since I rotate so many machines, comparatively speaking, due to the unreliability / issue-laden nature of the Apple notebooks, wear & tear due to actual use on one machine is actually the least of my problems.

Marware makes a great solution for all aluminum MBPs; some are leather, others are some sort of very compliant but tough silicone material. All are very thin, grey, and extremely precision cut to fit the laptop perfectly. While they say you can remove and re-use them my experience has been removal ruins the pad but does NOT harm the computer in any way and leaves no glue or other residue behind.

I've used the Marware Protection Packs for years and wouldn't have an aluminum MacBook without one... even if acid damage to the surface of the computer was not an issue I dislike the feel of bare metal against my skin. I used to prefer the leather but the newer silicone does a better job staying clean and new looking.
