Can someone recommend an MP4 converter for a Mac? I have a late model Canon that does video clips. The videos play find on my MBP, but I need to convert them to MP4 to load them on to my Iphone and Ipad. Thanks.

Just note that Handbrake has not been smooth with the transition to OS X 10.6 (Mountain Lion). I cannot even open the program on my MBA with ML running. It idles for about 10 seconds and OS X forcefully closes it. From what I have read online; others are able to open it but encounter the same error only when they try to open a DVD. You shouldn't have any issues if you are still running Lion or Snow Leopard. In my opinion, Handbrake is (hands down) the best OS X program for converting videos to iDevice (and Apple universe) appropriate settings. You may also be able to use iMovie. I have used iMovie in the past to convert 1080i/60p files to 1080/30p movies without issues. iMovie even lets you adjust the settings of the movie to (maybe) produce a better image.

guess thats a typo... 10.8 not 10.6 :) but I have 10.8.1 on a rMBP and Handbrake runs just fine.

Yeah, sorry. 10.8. It appears that Handbrake and ML compatibility is hit or miss (mainly miss), count yourself lucky that it fully works and it lets you convert videos and rip DVDs without issues. I have a friend with a Mac Mini and they just upgraded to ML. They can open Handbrake and convert video files but they cannot rip and convert DVDs. Hopefully the person/people behind Handbrake are working on a solution. As it stands, I have to run my Windows virtual machine to rip and encode DVDs or video files.

I have yet to try a DVD... I don't actually own any, i keep everything digital... but since the OP wasn't worried about a DVD, I doubt thats an issue.
