I am nearly certain now on buying a MBP but can't really afford to spend more than £1400 (ex. VAT).

So I am left with the decision to either get the 2.2Ghz version and get AppleCare with it or splash out on the 2.4Ghz version with the better graphics. I have read extensively the thread(s) on 128 vs 256 and for the games I will be playing I don't think it's going to make much of a difference - the only thing i'm worried about is not being able to play future games because of the lower graphics memory.

So how useful realy is AppleCare - if i was to send in the MBP for repairs wouldn't it cost less than this protection plan? Advice please! :) Thanks!

EDIT: Just realised that you can get the AppleCare protection plan for a LOT less than if bought straight from apple (something quite obvious i think i should've realised!) I've read that you can buy the protection plan at any time during the 1st year, so I guess I could always get the 2.4Ghz version and then decide later whether to spend £140 on the extended warranty...

Me, I'd go for the better specs instead of AppleCare. Remember, you get a one year warranty and you can always buy AppleCare by the time your warranty is about to expire.

Yes, my suggestion is get the 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro, and save up some cash over the first year to get AppleCare later on in the first year. You don't have to buy AppleCare right away.

And AppleCare is worth it in my opinion; 3 years is a long time in technology, and hard drives can fail, RAM can fail, Logic Boards can fail, etc. With AppleCare those are covered. Just a Logic Board replacement can cost up to (or even more) $500, so I'd say the AppleCare is worth it.
