Is it possible to buy a MBP 15" with basic spec plus higher res matte screen without going through Apple Store?

I don't think so unless you buy from a person who bought a MBP with a matte screen. Most major retailers sell them with the glossy screen only.

If you do not buy preconfigured or get it from apple, your warranty will be shot.

No warranty is tied to the machine so it doesn't matter where you get it from.

I think that he means if you pull the piece of glass off of the screen you'll be stuck without a warranty.
