Unless you are going to use 64 bit OS, you might just want to get 3GB.

I have 4 gigs in the mbp but with the 256 version and this thing really smokes but when I bought it I put 4 gigs in before I turned it on so I cant really compare to the 2 gig set up. I can run Prey max out. :D

Just wondering, can the C2D MBP that doesn't have the new LED screen handle 4 GB or is 3 the limit?

the slighty older mbp handles 3 gigs of ram, the brand new one can use 4 gigs.

it wouldnt matter so much if there were 1.5 gig ram modules ;)

but ddr is a good thing.

Hmmm, anyone know what the manufacture of RAM the MBP uses? Or is it some custom RAM made by Apple?

Otherwise, can anyone confirm which manufacture of 2GB modules work fine in OSX and with Boot Camp?

No one should buy ram from the notebook manufacturer especially when ram prices are dropping at this rate. You can get a single 2gb stick of pc2 5300 ram for $100.

HAHAH. Yeah, that made me laugh. What is that, 400% inflation? And unless Apple changes the price soon, that inflation rate is only going to increase.

Ok, now I'm sure some of you here have read over on the Asus forums about 3GB of RAM being the magic number for gaming in Vista giving double the amount of FPS in some game(s) (I think only FEAR and other FPSs have been tested thus far). So I was wondering if anyone with the MBP 128MB VRAM version that has a copy of Vista can try putting 3GB of RAM into their setup and post some benchmarks? I'd do it if I owned Vista, but on the other hand a 2GB stick of RAM can be had for $100 and it's an extra 1GB of memory to be had.

    Anyone up for it??

Well actually, if you benchmark a game that has already been benchmarked by another MBP with 2 gb of ram, it would be possible to compare the performance difference.
