Is it normal for the MBP to make an ejecting noise when I turn it on.

It is completely normal on MB's and MBP's regardless of a disk being present or not.

I think Macbooks only make that noise when there is no disc in the drive, because my Macbook doesn't make that noise and I have a disc in the drive almost all the time.

I believe that's there so you can boot via a cd without starting the computer up and turning it off once just to get the disk in there.

the ejecting noise is completely normal. all cd drive have that; my windows pc, my stereo system, even my cars!

i believe the purpose is to check if there is any disk in the drive.
