Anyone else had their Macbook/MBP shipped from Shanghai, CN? Is this the norm for Apple?

Most if not all electronics and that includes computers are made in China.

Note that there is a difference being actually 'made' and assembled. Macs are assembled in China, but their internal components are not necessarily all made in China. The same goes for Sonys and Dells, the fact that they are assembled in California does not mean every component in the machine is made in California.

Actually in the context of laptops "made" is usually "assembled".

I agree with this statement. "Made" actually means "Assembled" in the computer/electronic products world...

Almost without exception, all laptops are made/assembled somewhere in china.

that's where mine shipped from. It's funny, I'm living there now, and these people need to pay $500 more than us for their Macs too, and no student discounts, they're all jealous of my MBP....
