would an AE messenger bag be good enough as a carrying case for my MBP?

Generally messenger bags aren't meant to carry laptops. I wouldn't put my $2000 computer in one unless it also had a pretty good sleeve to add protection.

well, i dropped my macbook pro from about 2 1/2 to 3 feet and it didn't even get a scratch. so i would think a messenger bag should provide adequate protection.

I'd get a sleeve just in case, or just get a bag meant to carry laptops.
