I was thinking about 13.3 MBP.

When, do you think, will the upgraded MBP will be launched? What specs do you predict for it?

In addition, they are currently offering really nice rebate on iPod Touch and etc (up to 145 pounds). It would be possible to resell this iPod and get at least ~100 pounds "cashback" for the MBP... This rebate is ending on Sept 8. Is it likely that a new one will be introduced after it or not? Is it likely, that a similar campaign will be launched after the introduction of the refreshed MBP?

Basically, is it worth waiting? (I can either get low spec MBP for ~600-650 pounds or wait...)

Very unlikely to be introduced this soon when the 13 MBP is only what 3 months old (in Sept). If you need it then it is not worth waiting. Right now is a great time to buy with the Ipod rebate. Yes you can sell it.

Well, I do not need it urgently. I think, I can wait for 3-6 months easily. However, it would not be fun to loose iPod rebate just for a minor upgrade in specs. (the current specs of the slower MBP are OK)

The ipod rebate is once per year. It is usually the cheapest time to get a Mac.

Thanks a lot. I am a few more doubts away from "order now" :/

What are the likely upgrades for the next gen of MBP? Well, how much does Apple generally upgrade systems?

Updates late 09 or early 10 will probably included cpu bumps, possibly HDD increases, probable new Intel mobile platform; the "next-generation" chassis is going to be several years away. Updated iLife software if they release a '10 followup to '09. Likely nothing external since they just changed it in June to meet what were perceived as shortcomings of the original unibody models.

Have you considered looking at the official apple refurbished computers? There are some good deals there. You don't get a free ipod when you purchase their refurbished computers, but you can get a free printer up to $100. The Mail-in rebate process is super easy and you get the check pretty quickly.

    Thanks all

J12, that is a good idea. Do I still get the Education Discount on refurbished items?

No, sadly you do not get the education discount on refurbished items. I'm pretty sure the only deal you get is the free printer. I purchased two refurbished laptops from apple now and they are pretty much brand new. Everything is there except the printed outside box, you get a plain white box instead.

Thanks, J12. So, the conclusion is that it is worth buying a new MBP + iPod now (it is the cheaper way). I will have my last thoughts about it and decide.

OT: how does MBP screen compare with other 13.3"-14.1" screens of similar (or lower) price tag? Like T400, Dell E6400, Dell XPS 13 and etc

No and no would be my guess, quads put out more heat then the core 2's currently and probabally will not work well in a less than 1" profile. As for Blu ray its not normal for Apple to licence media technologies much as they push the itunes content mostly

what about i7 mobile? It is thought to have been introduced by the end of the year. Is it likely, that the next gen MBP will have it?

I was checking the Apple Refurbished Macbooks earlier today and there's a deal where you can get a 13.3" Macbook Pro (current generation, lower processor model) for $999.00. If I had money, I would jump on that now, lol.

If you need it, I would get it now, whether it's through the Refurbished or the new section with the iPod rebate. Personally, I'm waiting until Apple comes out with either a lower price MBP (which I doubt will happen next summer. They'll probably just bump the specs) and/or until the new Intel processors come out.

I will consider that. My current laptop is not in the best shape and has some serious issues (battery life 5 min :) ), but I can still live with that... I would wait for the new Intel processor, but it might take too long...
