Ok, here is how my story goes. I arranged for a friend of mine to get me a MBP 2.16, 1GB ram from the USA for 2200$ including tax. Shipping around Christmas would cost me another 200$. The MBP is available in Kuwait but more expensive. I would pay 2800$ for the same machine. I decided to call a reseller here in Kuwait and try to bargain.

So I call up the shop and a sales woman picks up the phone. I got a quote for the 2.16 MBP that would cost 2800 and she mentioned that every additional 1GB would cost me 200$. I confirmed that 3GB would cost me 400$ and confirmed the purchase.

An hour later I got a call from the same sales lady, :( I was dissapointed when I saw the number on my mobile. I thought she was calling to explain how she was mistaken about the upgrade price. Turned out she was gonna apologize because they still haven't received any 2GB sticks. She was also kind enough to offer me 3GB worth of ram for the price of 2!!! That's right! A free upgrade :D . She made it very clear that she would write on the receipt that as soon as they get 2GB sticks, I would bring my MBP in and get one of the sticks replaced with a 2GB stick!! I don't think they realize how much it costs.

I hope that they keep there promise and actually call me when 2GB arrives. This way I would of paid more for the MBP but saved 750$ on the rams. I would actually get a better deal from Kuwait

Dude, thats a sweet upgrade. a 2 GB stick is worth like $600. You would be getting a sweet bargain even if you were paying for the 3 gigs.

I know!! I almost told them that I wanted 10*2GB sticks, to make a profit out of them. I was worried that they would realize that something was wrong and cancel on me. I actually made the sales lady write "1 extra GB ram (total=3)" and sign underneath it :) She wouldn't agree on writing +2, she claims that would mean a total of 4GB. Anyway, if anything goes wrong, I would know were to complain.

Thanks, but I wouldn't want to Jinx it. I'm already worried that someone from the shop ends up reading this thread

id feel bad for the dealer, but judging from the mac salespeople ive dealt with, they deserve it. I didnt think anyone could talk down to and attempt to outright deceive customers more then bestbuy, but the local mac dealer gives it his best, and is a jerk on top of it lol.

I would also feel bad but since they sell the machine almost 40% more than the online price.

Update: I've been calling them every once in a while and they still don't have any in stock. Today someone told me that they won't get any unless you pay/order in advice. I talked to the manager and he said that mine is on the way too! :D I can't wait!!!! Since I don't have the MBP anymore, would I be able to stick it in my Thinkpad T60? Is it the same size/specs? Oooh, the suspense is killing me, C2D + 7200rom + 3GB = VROOOM VROOOM !!!

I don't think the Thnkpad will be able to cope with 3GB... it is not just sticking the memory in, the motherboard and BIOS must support that amount of RAM. You'd better ask in the IBM/Lenovo section.

You will know when you stick it in. If it does not report the full 3GB, then you know it will not support it. The good news is that you can probably make a nice chunk of change selling that stick.
