Thankfully very few MBPs have this problem. If this was widespread, it'd really suck if someone left their MBP in sleep mode when they went out and it burnt down thier house.

That would be a defected Mac (I hope  :p), so I don't expect it to be of any worry :).

It's odd, there have been more laptops exploding in Asia, but I've seen few reports of those.

Before reading the article, I was saying "oh great, were back to Sony's defective batteries!". But interesting. Never seen a laptop go like that before.

While reading this, I immediately thought of an exploded battery, but interestingly the hole is at the BACK?! So what is actually blown up there? You can see molten plastic from the screen and a rahter impressive hole (considering the fact that such devices aren't ment for scooping earth by the means of an massive explosion). I'm pretty impressed, to say the least.

i'm scared :( this is even worse than the battery! the cpu exploded? could the user actually caused this?

apple trying to cover their asses? (from getting sued i imagined)

i think he should be compensated more than just a laptop... what about his damaged desk?

No, the user should not be able to cause this.

And Apple asked me the same questions when my magsafe went up in flames (well, okay... it smoked and melted...). It's really done for a few reasons. They want to gauge the severity of the issue... and an idea if you will sue. It also gives them time to prep their lawyers and curb a lawsuit if there could possibly be one. I'm sure if his desk or anything was damaged, he would have told them and they probably would have taken care of it.

    hahahah... true...

but even then... almost all of my apple stuff actually has defects, its just a matter are you able to tolerate it? coz this defects is actually normal...

    for example

:( an ipod with broken cable, they wouldn't replace mine.
:( a macbook with buzzing (vibrating) problem
a macbook that has its cpu fan replaced 2 times because the replacement actually was faulty.
a macbook arrived with crooked key
a macbook replaced top case, arrive with broken touchpad button
:( a macbook pro that went dead on arrival. buzzing/hissing/beeping power adapter. returned.
the screen flickers. could be a faulty motherboard.
:( a macbook pro arrived with broken power adapter again.
a macbook pro screen latch (one of them) would not hook properly.
a macbook pro that has a warped case. replaced
a macbook pro with above average screen leakage

oh an anyone notice that the computer actually arrived with small part of the screen arrived with some substance that feels like glue... it takes just a water and a soft cloth to clean up though..
